charmedagain Member Posts: 240 From:uk Registered: Aug 2003	posted 11-24-2003 09:28 AM Hi, cats are very smart if you have noticed there whiskers are wider than there body and this is for a reason, If a cat tries to get throught a hole lets just say in a fence and there whiskers touch the sides then they know they wont fit through so a cat wont attempt it. This is why whiskers should never be cut not even trimmed they need them incase they ever get out and need to escape from danger.. A cat can sense danger and can also tell when a person is going to have say an epileptic siezure... So i would have to say cats are just as smart as dogs even though they dont look it IP: Logged

It all depends on the individual animal. But in general, it is more of a personality thing than an intelligence thing. Cats are generally more independent and don't look to people to provide a pack or even for their approval. Dogs do. Cats cen be taught just the same as dogs - they are food motivated. Do a search on the web for clicker training with cats and you should find some videos of cats running an agility course. So, I don't think one is smarter than the other.
