i have a foster puppy that has worms, and all the symtoms. We gave him some over the counter stuff because nobody is open on a saturday or sunday. Don't worry, because we are taking him monday. What irks me is that the pound said he has had all his shots and been dewormmed. I am almost 100% sure it is roundworms. But i saw online that over the counter stuff is usually not effective....Is there some form of home remedy i can give him to help his stomach not hurt until tommorrow? IP: Logged |

oh yeah, if this helps any, the over the counter stuff i gave him was Lambert Kay. Is that a good brand? and will it hurt him to get the prescrtiption dewormmer after taking this? IP: Logged |

Take him to the vet before you give him any more worming treatment, explain that the pound told you he had been dewormed and go from there. The vet should tell you exactly what's wrong with him or tell you if it is safe to worm him again. Buy something like advantage from the vet as usually one good dose should do the trick. Is your puppy skinny? Both my dogs that I got from the pound were skinny as they don't feed them too good, that could be the problem too. IP: Logged |

well, he is really skinny, and he has actually gotten skinnier since he was here, and we feed him plenty, but his appetite has decreased, and we saw some roundworms in his poo. at first, he ate like a pig (puppy chow with a tad of water on it) then he didn't want that so we gave him puppy chow with a little bit of soft food in it, and now all we can get him to eat is chicken, so we got some doggy gatorade as i like to call it (i think the real name for it is electrolyte) and it has all sorts of nutritious stuff in it, and he doesn't like that at all, but i put it in an eye dropper (not a used one, i bought one for him) and i gave him some of that, because even though he is eating chicken, he isn't eating it well, plus chicken doesn't have verything he needs. i am doing my best to keep him happy till tommorrow comes if there is anything that anyone could suggest for keeping him happy, or feeding him something, please post!
