Hi MISTY22:

Check in w/ your local animal shelter(s). They most likly would have pups in your price range. Don't rush into it, understand what is expected of a dog owner, in order to raise your new pup properly & well. It's a lifetime commitment .
Basically, a puppy that would stay around that "small" size when full-grown would be those breeds in the "TOY" group, or the "Non-Sporting/COMPANION" group.

Hi, I have a mini dauchshund and a shihzu. The mini D. is pretty small. But maybe not as small as you would like. The smaller the dog the more expensive, at least that's what I've noticed. (if your looking for a lap dog) I know that there are expensive large dogs, but they aren't lap dogs...Some think they are!heheheheh....Goodboybaddogs has a good point! Please make sure your ready for the commitment, they are alot of work! But wouldn't trade them for anything! Good luck to you! Sincerely, Susan

I have a maltese poodle cross. Not as expensive as a pure breed but on average they cost about $400-500 canadian. Her mother was about 8 lbs. and her father was under 10 lbs. so she will remain a small dog. You might check with the local animal shelter, especially after Christmas. Lots of last minute gift puppies get "discarded" after x-mas. very sad. you might be able to save one of them for a price you can afford.

I don't have toy breeds but I hear that Chihuahuas are pretty small so maybe that can be a consideration for you. Check on the internet and look for a Chihuahua rescue group near you and they can match you up to a dog that is right for you and your family.
