Let's talk about this interesting line of products! Here is their website: http://www.naturesvariety.com/

There is frozen food, freeze-dried food, kibble, bones, treats, and supplements, all in a variety of flavors.

Maisey, do you feed frozen or freeze-dried? Do you rotate the flavors? Does anyone else feed this food? Has anyone used the kibble?

The amount on the feeding guide for the kibble is less than half of what we feed Nala now (Healthwise), but then again don't they usually say to feed puppies twice as much as adults?

Has anyone used the bones, treats, or supplements?

Are there any cons to this food?

Morning Jimaya,

I feed the raw frozen. I buy the three pound bags of medallions. They are sooo easy to handle, no mess and it's simple to figure portions. It's hard to get used to feeding so much less quantity wise. I find myself wanting to give them more than the bag says, just because it seems like such a little bit. I usually buy 1 bag of the Chicken/Turkey variety and one of the Beef, then I trade around from day to day. The store also sells Lamb but she said her cats won't eat the lamb so I haven't tried it yet. I buy them the dehydrated treats, like the tripe and achilles tendons those sorts and the dogs love them. I do not use the supplements, my dogs don't seem to need them. I have not tried the kibble, I'm trying to get away from that. I buy my big boys the frozen patties and feed them that instead of the Canidae about three times a week. I have bought them the frozen turkey necks, they thought they had died and gone to heaven, they didn't seem to have any problems with those and ate them slowly, well not slow, but they didn't scarf them down either. I thawed them first. I haven't bought them again, I want to figure out this bone thing first. Last time I went in I bought raw frozen rabbit meat, the bone was ground up, it came in tubes and was from a company called Columbia River Naturals or something like that. It was $8 I think, it was only the meat and bone, nothing else mixed in so I just give it to the cats and dogs as a treat. They had all kinds of meats like this, guinea hens, venison, elk, green tripe(this stinks horrible!), turkey, and I think even buffalo. They sell a veggie mix too. I really like the Natures Variety, as I have said many times on here already, lol. I take out the amount of medallions I will need for the morning and put them in a ziplock bag in the fridge, after I feed them in the am I refill the bag with the evening meal. I just keep going like that. If I forget to take them out, I can put them in a ziplock bag and place the bag in a cup of water to defrost them. You do not want to place them in the microwave as that defeats the purpose of feeding raw. I also like the fact that I set the bowl down, they eat it right away, I pick the bowl up and we are done, no food dishes laying around! No worrying about who is eating whose food. I bought some ceramic bowls that are the perfect size for a buck a piece at the Dollar tree, they each have a different dog or cat design on them and are simple to clean. The shop I buy from has several different brands of raw foods, occasionally I buy something a bit different to give as treats, but basically I am staying with Natures variety.
Cons to the food....well, feeding Darby and the cats on this is affordable, it's $7 for a 3lb bag and they eat WAY less, and I am no longer buying all the crap to try and control allergies and struvite crystals. BUT feeding my big boys on it would be expensive. It's $15.50 for a package of the patties. There are 12-8 oz patties in a package totalling 6 lbs. Witt being 63# would eat 2 patties a day. Dooley weighs 45.5 pounds and would get 1- 1.5 patties a day. If I figured Dooley at 1 patty a day that means I would be using 3 patties a day. This means one package would last me four days for the two dogs. @ $15.50 a package I would need 7.5 a month costing me $116.25 a month for both dogs. And you can round that up because I would most likely feed Dooley a bit more, he plays hard on a regular basis, plus flyball, I just think he might need a tad more. A 40 pound bag of Canidae usually lasts me a month for the two dogs and it's less than $40. I do add to the Canidae diet with raw foods and if I were already feeding raw I wouldn't be doing that, but it still comes out to be less expensive feeding the Canidae. I feel better feeding the raw, I really do think it is the best thing for them.
Here is the link to the other company I was talking about. http://www.columbiarivernaturalpetfoods.com/

I've tried samples of the kibble (the Beef & the Chicken) and my dogs seemed to like it. I buy the cans on ocassion and a co-worker gave me a frozen raw beef pattie to try which Natalie absolutely loved. I would really like to try some of their treats and chews. The turkey treats look great.

I've tried their Prairie Whole Food Blend "Supplement". I was happy w/ the results durring the time i was feeding it. G O O D stuff! Try to get it as freash as possible, & don't forget to refrigerate after opening.
I've also tried their Dry Roasted Treat "Beef Shank Filets". Definatly better than the one i used to get at Petco & Petsmart. More nutritional value. And it's bone lasts longer.
