So, just so everyone knows, My whole afternoon has been filled with this mental repeat of having watched a dog hit/get hit by a car at the park today.

The two dogs were playing (of course they were off leash) and one took off, the other followed in chase. I watched as they ran..and ran ..and ran to the sidewalk, when someone yelled "ROAD ROAD!!!!" and the first dog plows head on into a passing vehicle with this sickening sound of skull against metal. THANKFULLY it didn't catch the back tire, although it was DAMNED close. Because of the momentum of the dog, and the speed of the car, the dog was pulled forward into the bushes. I wanted to cry, I thought it was dead. Right until it trotted BACK onto the sidewalk all wobbly and disoriented. The driver pulled over and ran up to the dog (which never happens in savannah, people here are *******) and kneeled down to hug and pet it and was obviously very distraught. The owners were so stupified that they WALKED to their dog who was sitting and quite frightened/shocked from the impact. They stood over there a while and I got rather angry, so I rushed over with another guy and literally TOLD them to take the dog to the vet, only for them to look at me (probably in amazement that the dog was still alive) and say, "She looks alright." I was mad, and I told them, "You need to take her to a vet NOW. She is likely to have a concussion or other internal damage and it NEEDS to be checked NOW. You don't know if this dog is Alright." And after repeating myself about three more times to Take the dog to the vet, they finally came to their senses and went.

THIS, is why I don't like having Casie of her leash. I really don't. Even though she doesn't play with the other dogs, I know that she will chase squirrels...anywhere. And when she's determined she WILL go after them and will not listen to a single yell. This frightens me VERY much. The last thing I want is my dog running into the road.

I really hope the dog survives. I really do.

I am so sorry you had see this, I am glad you talked the people into taking the dog to the vet. I was on a freeway maybe 25 years ago and a st benard came out of no where and I hit it, I pulled over looked in my rearview mirror and someone jumped out of a car grabbed the dog and took off, strange, dont know if it was the owners or just some nice passerby, but it has haunted me ever since - since I dont know what happened to the dog.

Hey now, Savannah has no corner on moronic dog owners! They're worldwide for sure. So sorry you had to go through that; I doubt I would have handled myself as well as you!

I have taken grip on my self-control with 2 folks in my neighborhood, both of whom "lost" their dogs. (And I found them both). Both of them would just open the door in the morning and let the dog go out! The FRONT door. And then "lost dog" signs went up when one day they didn't return
DUH
I found both animals because I walk my dog, and we take LONG walks because he needs a lot of exercise. Both dogs weren't far from home which made me wonder if these people even went out and looked for their animals.
sigh
I don't know, maybe it's me. My dog is just like one of my kids. He gets the same quality attention that they get. He needs discipline and training like they do. He has to be watched over like they have to be watched. Maybe I just expect too much from other people.

I moved from south dakota to tybee island GA, which is a little island right off savannah. We had our family pet in the car with on one day, Holly a little black poddle. In the small town we lived in in South dakota HOlly ruled the town!! so about the secound or three week in savannah, holly got lose and was hit and killed by a car, right in front of my brother. the car didnt stop, i dont even think it slowed down!! my brother felt horrible for years! anytime you told a holly story, he would have to leave. he felt like it was his fault becasue she got lose. it was horrible. you know if those people had stoped and try to help out it would have been easier for him, but becasue he got no real closure, it took him a while to get over it. Savannah is a horrible place to have a dog off a leash, my family had to deal with it. the people their have no emotions, it seems like! and they drive like crazy!! i couldnt tell you how my wreacks my brothers and sisters got into becasue people would run red lights and go way tooo fast!! Savannah is an awsome place its really pretty and there are some really fun things to do there. but if you go there just watch your dog and yourself when your in your car!!!
