my neighbor threw away there puppy...and i found it outside..and took it..and recently she has been bleeding when she poops..i talked to lady she said she has all her shots and stuff... she was chewing on bones from steak and i think she ate half of it could that be the problem?? i cant afford a vet at moment im inbetween jobs (disabled) and my wife is only makeing enough to get us by. what can i do..should i take away bones? or could something else be wrong? it happens in small globs before she poops sometimes she doesnt even poop..what could be wrong? thanx [This message has been edited by Ninja BoB (edited 11-04-2003).] IP: Logged |

Hi, Ninja Bob, That is most definitely NOT normal. My advice is to first look for a vet that will accept payments. If that fails, maybe it's best to take the puppy to a shelter where it can receive veterinary care and be placed with another home. It sounds like the puppy just showed up on your doorstep because it was abandoned and I applaud you for taking it in, but I also urge you to do what's necessary for the pup to be healthy. I don't mean for this to be a lecture, just a pep talk! Sounds like you care enough about the puppy to ask here, so I'm sure you'll do the responsible thing. IP: Logged |

No, the blood is not normal. I agree with Alison. There are vets out there that accept payments. The steak bones could be a definate cause of the blood and there could have been some damage to the pup's insides. Also, if the pup was abandoned, there could have been some abuse so the pup needs a checkup anyways. Don't wait. Blood in the stool could be serious and the pup's health could be in danger. Part of being a pet owner is to take care of your pet's health and your pup needs you to do this. [This message has been edited by Karriesue (edited 11-04-2003).] IP: Logged |

I agree with the above Bob, kudos to you for taking the pup in and doing your best. I never give my dogs cooked bones of any kind, always raw or not at all. Thats my personal rule of thumb. Cooked bones can splinter and cause all kinds of trouble. If you really want to keep the dog, call around to some vets, explain the situation and find one that will take payments. Someone on this forum has mentioned some kind of credit card for pet care before...anyone remember? |
