Hi. I have a 9 week old female toy poodle puppy. The housebreaking is going okay, except one problem. When we put her in her crate, she doesn't seem to have a problem wetting and messing her spot. I have put a partition in the crate to make it smaller, but she does it anyway, and seems to have no problem laying in it. She is only in the crate for short periods of time....at night and I take her out every 2-3 hours, or if I'm away from the house for 1-2 hours. I also, I always take her out, and she goes before putting her in. She is on a feeding schedule as well. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

Perhaps it's separation anxiety? Other than cleaning her crate with something like Nature's Miracle to neutralize the odor, I'm not sure what else to tell you. Hopefully someone else will step forward since you seem to be doing everything right! Oh, perhaps you should take her to the vet for a checkup to eliminate a bladder infection as a possible cause of the accidents.

I had a simiular problem with my 10 week old doxie. She did the same thing! She hated her crate and not problem wetting her blanket in her crate and it was a small crate (but not too small)! We tried and tried to get her to like it and it just wasn't happening. She would come out crying and crying. I recently put up a baby gate in the kitchen and got her a little fluffy bed at PetSmart and put it in the kitchen with toys and her bones and she is much happier. I'm sure every dog is different, but she is doing much better with the potty training and the doggy crys. She hasn't made any messes in the kitchen so far! Melissa IP: Logged |
