while making a sandwich I discovered that ham was mildly spoiled ( a faint odor, it was OK a day ago ) I was going to give it to my 105 pound dog but my son started arguing against it. The dog was recently caught munching on a dead bird without any adverse effects. Is it safe to feed it this ham ??????? IP: Logged |

I won't give my dogs anything spoiled, if it upsets their stomache it's not like they can come out and say "hey that ham you gave me upset my stomache the other day." so I never give them anything that isn't fresh or that I would not eat myself. I'm pretty good with only giving my dogs doggie treats and foods especially for them, my carpets are light and I don't want any episode of wet poops on the carpet. IP: Logged |

I would not feed any spoiled food either. Not only that but I don't feed my dogs what people call "table scraps", I do feed them off my cutting board, but I use the same safe handling measures, quality meats and vegetables I do for my family. I wouldn't want to take the chance with the slightly spoiled ham, even though your dog would probably vote yes. Smiles, Maisey IP: Logged |

i don't give my dogs spoiled food. But on more than one occasion they have been known to discover unpleasant carcass remnants and happily finish them off (ugh!) with no ill effects. I have also left their raw meat food sitting out all night and given it to them the next morning and they've been completely fine. If something just expired I wouldn't be too concerned with giving a moderate amount, dogs have an amazing immunity system specifically designed to eat all manner of bacteria! Fresh or spoiled, if they are given too much and not used to it that is what will generally cause the stomach upset. IP: Logged |

I don't even feed my dog human food. I know this sounds so mean but I had done it before with a different dog and he stopped eating his dog food all together. IP: Logged |
