So often on this board people ask about food, what to feed, what others feed, whats best, whats not. I thought it would be helpful if all the information is located in one thread. I am going to cut and paste posts from other threads to this one, all that pertain to food and nutrition. Please feel free to do the same. Lets try not to repeat posts. Remember,this is meant to be an informative based thread only, everyone should do their own research.
It's difficult to give "facts" pertaining to foods, feeding, and recommendations because a lot of what is out there is anecdotal info, as well what works for one might not work for another. Anyone can put anything on a website, that too should not be taken as fact. Its great to recommend reading/sites/and offer input but the opinions of others are not necessarily going to be right for everyone nor should they take the place of vet care.
Lets keep it an informative thread and keep discussions in other threads. Also remember, no advertising, it is a site rule and should be respected. Post links for informational purposes only.

This is the link for Innova/California Naturals web site. (Natura Co.)These are also excellent foods, but I like to use their "Ingredient Wizard". Grab your bag of dog food and go through the list, looking up each one. They have ingredients listed with explanations that they don't even use in their foods. The Whole Dog Journal is where I started my education, it was eye opening to say the leaste. My Flyball Captain gave me a copy to read once. I now have a subscription and look forward to it each month. It covers many issues and topics having to do with dogs, but their Top Dog Foods List is something every dog food manufacturer wants to be on, they explain very well what to look for in a good food. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/index.html

I found this article on preparing fresh fruits and vegetables for your dogs and thought I would share. There were a couple things I had questions on in it, like under "salad vegetables" it says that onions are hard for dogs to digest but doesn't say they are toxic to dogs. (It is my understanding they are)I was also told by my vet not to feed grapes or raisins to my dogs. I have heard and read lots of differing opinions when it comes to dog and cat foods, be careful and do your own homework, not everything on the internet is fact.

I've been exploring and researching feeding a raw diet to my dogs and cats. I personally have come to the conclusion that feeding a biologically appropriate diet to my animals is important to their health and longevity. However I have had reservations about some of the debated issues that go along with feeding them a raw diet. Feeding whole raw bones has been one of them, I am nervous about the possibility of impaction, perforation or choking. I have chosen to feed a purchased raw food that is already mixed up to be balanced and the bones are finely ground and I am happy with it. I found this web site and some articles there that I thought I would pass on to anyone who is interested no matter what side of the debate you are on, it's good to be open to learning about both views. I found that this site has offered some research to back up their point of view, not only that but they sort of took a middle road instead of being black or white on the issue. It answered some of my questions, maybe some of yours will be answered too.
