It is hard for me to even write about this. I just came back from the vet where I put my 16 year old husky, Keeston, to sleep. When I got up this morning, she was sprawled out on the laundry room floor, had gone to the bathroom and must have had to lay in it for several hours because she was soaked. She looked at me like, "this is it". Just yesterday she came running in from being outdoors, played "tug" with my Aussie and her stuffed monkey. I just didn't know it was coming so fast. I took her to the vet at 7am and she could not stand up and was twitching in her face. The vet said she probably had a stroke. I held her face and let her go to sleep in my arms.
I am just so glad this board is here to listen. Thanks

I am SO sorry!!! It's so hard when they go so fast, but at least you know she didn't suffer very long. I'm glad you were there to hold her in her last hours.

Jeminn, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I'm sitting here hoping noone comes in my office because I have tears after reading that. You must have done amazing things with your dog for her to live for 16 years and up to the end still be ready to play. Always keep fond memeories of Keeston and she will be gone but not forgotten.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of Heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, the pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our special friends are warm and comfortable. There are meadows there, and hills and streams, so that they all can romp and play together, happy and contented.

All the ill and old animals are restored to health and vigor; the hurt and maimed who had suffered so much are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them. The animals are happy and at peace, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them, who has been left behind.

They all run and play together down the endless spring days, but a day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes grow intent; his eager body begins to quiver.

He has spotted you. Suddenly, he darts away from the group, his legs carrying him faster and faster as he skims over the green grass.

When you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face, the ecstatic purrs rumble in your ears. Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, yet never absent from your heart.

yeah, we had to put my aussie 2 sleep when she was almost 16, she also had a stroke, only instead of laying in pee, it was puke. Yuck. I am really sorry for you, it is really hard, especially after they have been around for a while like that.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have a 15 year old lab/border collie? mix. I know her days are numbering as she is slowly going down hill. Isnt running around like she used to. But she is a fighter and just isnt ready to go yet. Im so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to loose a furkid!!

hello Jeminn,

I'm very sorry that "the day" finally came. I'm not too familiar w/ the Siberian "Husky" breed, but i think 16 is a BiGG #. My 1st dog, a Boxer lived up to 14. I will never forget our last moments together. It definatly put a nice scar on my heart. But when i look back at it, it only made me want to do better & live a healthier life. It effected me in a lot of positive ways. I hope happiness comes sooner than expected. You know i was in class earlier today when i first read this, & i had to wait till i got home before i could respond, it was making me feel really sad....

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've read your posts about Keeston and what a good dog she was. I have two Huskies and I know what a joy the breed can bring to people. I'm glad to hear that you had many wonderful years with her and that fact that she lived to the ripe old age of 16 says what great care you took of her and how happy she was in her final days. So sorry to hear about your loss. I remember the day we had to put our dog to sleep. We had a cocker spaniel all during my childhood. He was so playful and very protective of us all. We had him for probably at least 10 years (it was so long ago I can't remember). I loved that dog like it was my sibling. He woke up blind one morning and that was the end. No sure if he could have led a life without vision but I think about him often, even 11 years down the road. My prayers are with you and your dog.
