i'm just curious to know the right time for first shots. does it start on their second week and every other week until they're 16 weeks? i believe that's how it is, but just want it to be clearified. another question is, if the pups have all these shots (every other week until week 16) does that reduce the risk for parvo infection? thanks

Different vets use different schedules. I believe the norm is 8 weeks and then every 3 weeks after that. Some vets give 3 total, and some like to give 4.

Yes, parvo is one of the shots they get. Shots are VERY important.

Hi Cisco, It does vary from vet to vet, I got my pup from a rescue his record is as follows.

3 weeks: wormed
5 weeks: wormed
He got shots at 6, 9, and 12 weeks and then rabies at 6 months when he was neutered and also microchipped.

Which vaccines your vet gives may depend on the area you live in, but I believe CPV (canine parvovirus) is given across the board. It is a highly contagious viral disease usually causing severe diarrhea and vomiting in dogs of all ages but is especially deadly in puppies. Until your puppy has been vaccinated and is protected, you should not take him to places such as PetsMart or the park. Other dogs visiting those places may not have been vaccinated or may have been infected with something that could make your unprotected puppy very ill.

Each vet has a differnet view on when to vaccinate...

I worm my Puppies at 2weeks and then every 2weeks until they are 12 weeks old and every 3months after that..

First vaccination is given at 8 weeks and last should be between 12 and 14weeks of age....

Vaccinations are a small diluted dose of the virus itself and this helps the immune system build antibodies towards viruses..

Some puppies don't take to well to the vaccinations and can be a little under the weather for a couple of days which is nothing to worry about its quite normal...
