I have a 13 year old german sheppherd/labrador. He is in good shape other than his arthritis. Lately he does not eat very much and is losing weight. However he will eat any people food going and looks for food outside. We have put him on synflex in this food and ate it until he figured out that the medicine was in his food. We took it out and give it to him with some milk and since then he does not eat and the Synflex medication does not seem to work that great. Someone please help me, I feel bad for him. IP: Logged |

Shellwalsh, I would try him on a differnt med. It could be bad tasting or upsetting his tummy. Several people here give their dogs OTC human glucosomine for their arthritis, just do a search here and type in arhtrities and glucosomine. Also you may want to try boiled chicken and rice, and mix it with a little of his food. Good luck Honeybear IP: Logged |

That is too bad.. I am sorry you are dealing with this.. My dog had Arthritis pretty bad because she had got hit by a truck at age four. Anyhow- the vet told me to give her half of the recommended adult dose on any over the counter medication for human arthritis. he said he didn't want my dog using something that was not tested and he didn't know the affect of, so use things people use for Arthritis and if it helps people, it will help the dogs. He told me Ascripton which has arthritis formula.. and to stay away from Aspirin's or anything with Aspirin in it. human version of Aspirin is strong for doggies. Anyhow. Hope this is of any help to you. Angie IP: Logged |

I have tried using Synflex on my poodle and had no good results either. I use a product sold here. www.creativepet.com/creative/shop.html Look under supplements by seatecs. and it is Product No. SE93454 Its for the senior dogs and has alot of other good things in it also for them. You can also check around in your better pet supply stores, Not Petco or any place like it. It is less expensive than alot of the others but works. Also it is a powder that tastes good to the dogs. You won't have to force it down its throat. If the arthritis gets worse he may need deramaxx or something similar from your vet. ------------------ [This message has been edited by puttin510 (edited 10-08-2003).] IP: Logged |
