Anyone who has any helpful information or sites on how to start off with the BARF diet and how effective it is.. please reply to this.. I am very curious. Is the whole raw meat a bad thing?? My dog is over coming demodectic mange and the vet says that the best diet for her is the BARF and it will most definately help her immune system built itself up.. Any advice on this would be great..

Hi Angie I just posted about BARF in the pit forum http://www.auspet.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000237.html

I recommend viewing this website http://www.diamondpaws.com/health/barf.htm they've done a great job at compiling a lot of links and info.

I wholeheartedly agree with your vets recommendation sounds like you have a good vet!!

Well I also questioned my vet on training collars. She said do my best with a flat and if I cannot get anywhere, she said a Gentle Leader or Halti head collar. She said it puts no strain on the neck if they are dragging you behind ( I thought it would like scrunch their neck) and she said it is not that way becaue they can turn their body every way and they can do whatever they want without being bothered by their neck. She used the example that if my dogs were to have a drive for cats and see one you can pull to one side and they will not look or be able to.. and it helps for steering purposes and does not pinch, shock or choke. I thought it sounded good. She said pinch/prong collars (which is what I was originally going to try and will if a GL does not work) were too much for a five month old to deal with.. Anyone agree with any of this? Also, she said the pups could be safely switched to adult formula food at five months which was strange to me, but they seem to do better on it. They aren't eating as much and have more positive energy. Only they poo all the time and it is very soft-- I figure they are going to need a couple days to adjust to the food. Plus one is just now getting off of meds and they both got Distemper/Parvo shots which the vet said may do that. Any suggestions or advice.. greatly appreciated.
