HELP, I have a 9 week old peekapoo that I got 2 weeks ago. When I first got him, I noticed that his rear legs where very wobbly. I took him to the vet and she said that she thinks that it is just puppy clumsiness. But to come back in 2 weeks just to recheck. He seemed to have gotten a little better until 4 days before his recheck he just starting yelping in pain at various times (standing, being picked up, laying) I just couldn't figure it out. He stopped walking almost completely. I took him to the vet 2 days ago and the doc said to keep him as still as possible and let him rest for a couple of weeks and bring him back for a recheck. Since his appt. he never walks. Even when we take him to the bathroom he just flops over in his back side. He just lays and sleeps almost all day. If anyone has any info, please. IP: Logged |

sounds like you need to change your vet. from what you are saying this sounds like it could be problems with either his spine or hips or it may be both. as you say he is yelping so that is a sign of pain and discomfort. i am not sure but if its just his hips at could be hip dysplasia which means that the knuckle joint is rubbing into the hip socket as they haven't formed correctly but do please take him back and have him rechecked.... keep us posted of his progress IP: Logged |

Oh my goodness. I agree please find another vet!!!! It sounds like the situation has gotten worse. He is obviosly in pain if he is yelping when you pick him up. He's probably been lying around hurting for weeks. IP: Logged |

I would definitely find a new vet, perhaps a specialist since the problem has gotten so much worse. Where did you get your puppy? 7 weeks seems a little early for a toy breed to be separated from mom and siblings, in my opinion. This info might be helpful to your vet in diagnosing the problem. Pekes do tend to have spine problems - intervertebral disc disease - but your pup seems a bit young for that (unless there's the possibility of an early trauma like a fall or drop?) Does your peke-a-poo puppy have the long Pekingese back? Symptoms include pain when walking and being held, reluctance to move, etc. I would definitely get him to a vet asap. IP: Logged |
