last friday night, parvo took my baby stimpy. He was my foster dog. I loved him so much, but his little body couldn't fight anymore, it just sqeezed the happiness out of him. The first day he was here was the only day he showed no signs of illness, he was playful, happy, he loved life. then, it all went downhill from there. he would have lived if the vet didn't mistake it for worms, because there was no blood in his stool, they didn't do the parvo test. Stimpy was about three years old, and his life really hadn't begun yet. he never knew love before i took him in. i only regret that he died all alone in the vets office friday night. i wish i was there to hold his little paw and tell him goodbye. i just can't get over this, all i wanted to do was find him a home, not bury him. they burned his body before i could get there to pick it up, we have a cemetery beside our house for our family pets, i wanted to put him there, because we were all he ever had. they didn't even call me when they discovered his little beautiful, lifeless body. I like to think he is a little angel now, up in heaven waiting for me. Hopefully he is better now, and i don't have to worry about him being in pain. I just need some words of hope, or something, i can't stop thinking about how much i loved him, and how i wasn't ready to let him go....

please take you dogs to the vet and get them their shots, i just thank God that my dogs go twice a year ad then some. forrest threw up today, (my mini. schnauzer) we took him to the vet for a parvo test, it was neggative, but if he does anything else, i will be sure to rush him right back! Does anyone know a lot about parvo? This is the first time i have ever dealt with it, and i want to know how long it lives, how it is spread ect. I read up on it, and we bleached our yard and porch and the room he stayed in. Plus, i have wine colored carpet in my room, does color safe bleach have the same type of killing power as regular bleach?

I do hope you let the vet know how upset you were at their seeming lack of consideration in not calling you and letting you see the body or take it home with you. It is such an important part in the grieving process to see the body and say goodbye, even if it is too late. I would get a new vet, if you have a choice in your town, and let them know precisely why they lost your business.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always hard to lose a loved one, especially when they are young. Hang in there. With time it will get better. Do you have any pictures of him? If so, maybe put one in a special frame as a remembrance. If not, use something else - get a tag made with his name, or a memorial stone for your garden - whatever you like.

You did your best and we are only human. It's hard when you get burned for trying to do good. At least he had one happy day in a real home, which is more than he would have had in the shelter.

I'm sorry for your loss and I'm glad your other dog is doing okay. I'm thinking that maybe the vet got rid of the remains quickly so that Parvo doesn't get spread to other puppies that come into the office. Not sure if that's the practice, but it sure makes sense. I hope this doesn't change your mind about fostering or rescue. You efforts are appreciated by not just the pups you take care of, but the whole community!

With time, the pain is healing, ever so slowly. I am going to the shelter tomorrow, i can't foster a dog for another six months though, it is just too risky for the dogs. I can tell that my dogs miss him, they haven't been as active since stimpy left this world. But they are healing too, and we will get through it together! I went to nashville today to make a speach on the animals who need homes and why spaying/neutering is so critical to keep the population of dogs and cats down. I found 7 dogs a home, and 2 cats, i did this for stimpy, because without him, finding homes for these dogs wouldn't feel so good. may God rest his little soul

Daphne,
I know exactly what you are going through. My 3 month old pup died last night from parvo. My heart is broken as this little dog gave us so much love and for him to be taken so soon just seems wrong. We are at a loss as to how he contracted it as my Vet is extremely careful. He had a bad case of worms that we were treating, and it was devestating to watch the poor little guy just fade away. He was a maltese/laso cross and he was adorable. He had been under Vet care since I got him from a home that I am having issues with... My Vets did everything they could, but his immune system had just been challenged and he couldn't take any more...
