I have a 4 y/o male schnauzer. My husband purchased me a female pup. She is now in season and my male is going crazy. Any suggestions on what we can do? We have tried separating them, but he still cries, barks, whines, etc... The female is okay, she doesn't understand. She is only 7 mts old.

Have your dogs been spayed and neutered? Your male is only acting out his natural instincts- get your female spayed ASAP, and your male too if you haven't already. In the meantime, keep them separated- that is about all you can do, and accept that this is normal behavior for your male dog if he is going to be around a female in heat. Keep your female indoors as much as possible to keep her from attracting other males into your yard and to prevent any possible breeding from your male or any other males. Keep a close eye on them both-

You must keep them separate or they will try to breed, which could be dangerous. There will be a few days of whining, howling and a desperate attempt to get to her - this is her most receptive time. I'd keep them at opposite ends of the house crated, alternating one out at a time while the other is crated in a room.

The best way to prevent this is have them both fixed.
