My dog is an 11 year old mutt. She recently began itching so much the hair around her butt, legs and underbelly is starting to come out. She was just at the vet who told us she was fine. I can't find any ticks or fleas on her. She just had her flea medication too. And to top it all off she is peeing inside, drinking lots and grumpy. What should I do? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Have your vet or a different one do a skin test. To rule out mange. It could be an allergy to foods. Dose she have any sores or just falling out hair. Slight chance of allergy to flea medication too. What kind do you use? Also what do you feed her. Also, She may have very full anal glands. Have you ever had them expressed. Does she ever scoot her but on the floor? If so, it may be the glands. I think it sounds like kidney disease or possibly diabetes. The drinking and peeing a lot are very common in both kidney failure and diabetes. The itchy skin could even be thyroid problems. I would bring her back to the Vet to have her tested. Older dogs tend to have things start to show up. Your Vet would not have known she had these problems without running some tests.
