I got my dog at the pound in april of this year, she is approx 3.5years now. She is wonderful, but has one bizarre obsession...shadows & light reflections on walls, the ground, the ceiling, etc. Once she sees a light or shadow she tries to pounce at it, scratch and sometimes bite at it. I cannot even distract her for long, if i take her out, she will want to come back to look at the walls some more. She will try to dart out into traffic and jumps around in the car chasing lights. I do not think that it is that she is bored as she gets a lot of attention and exercise. has anyone heard of such behaviour, and by chance have any advice? thank you!

I actually had a Pug that done this.. the only advice I can really give you is have the dogs eyes tested.. Mine done it because her eye sight was starting to go and that is things that annoyed her or that was clear enough for her to see or confused her.. it was maybe a combination of all.. Shadows she would tweek out over barking hysterically and lights she went crazy chasing.. Like I said.. have a vet check her out.. I never did end the behavior.. it was just a part of things I had to handle but I did discover her health problem with her eye sight.

It is really common for Border Collies to be obsessed with lights like that. I'll try to find the article I read about dealing with that.
