jake my lab has been for the last couple of months scratching and chewing and lately he just cant stop! He was up most of last night scratching and chewing. I switched him to Innova ealier this year and he gets vit e in his food. I think he may be allergic to grass. the strange thing (he is 6 1/2 years old) until we moved last year he would only tip-toe on grass, if his toys were on it, he would stand on the cement and bark for us to get them because he wouldnt walk on the grass. we have a new house with a different type of grass and he goes crazy - we have a pool we cant keep him out of and when he gets out of the pool he runs over to the grass and rolls in it like crazy. So I am thinking this may be the culprit. I found this on Drsfoster smith and was wondering if something like this would help and something else. The problem this says it is only 16 oz, Jake is huge, I would probably use half the bottle in 2 uses Herbal Skin & Coat Rub This soothing formula of all-natural pennyroyal and comfrey oils provides nature's own herbal anti-itch remedy if your pet suffers from allergies, grass itch, dry skin, and other skin discomforts. Slowly massage into your pet's skin for a relaxing treat. May be used as often as needed. For dogs and puppies. 16-ounce bottle. Honeybear IP: Logged |

My terrier tends to get little red bumps if he lays in the grass too long. It does not seem to make him itchy though. I just notice the bumps after the roll in the grass. Thanks for the info. IP: Logged |

Just a thought, but I think it might be the chlorine in the pool? That really dries out ones skin. Maybe its making him itch and he tries to scratch his back, etc when he gets out of the water? IP: Logged |

I am going tohave the water tested tomorrow since I noticed my skin was rather dry after getting. He just didnt have these reactions last summer. I just got back from petco (our only petstore) and they didnt have any ointment for the skin. Honeybear IP: Logged |
