Hello there,

Got a question for you guys, hope you can help...

DO you know how long after a dog is fixed is still able to reproduce?

I just adopted a min-pin... and i have two other dogs, jack russel... one is a fixed boy the other a girl(not fixed yet)...

Now we think the girl is pregnant !!
we cought them "having fun" a couple times, now she is acting wierd...

Her bubs are growing
She is sleeping too much
eating too much

She is about 8mo old, and got her first heat right when we got the new puppy... yeah, she is a tramp.. hehe, but is she pregnant???

Neutering a male dog is also called castration because they actually remove the testicles. They are sterile right from the time they have surgery. It is not like a vasectomy in humans where it takes so long for them to be sterile. It is instant at the time of surgery. Your female may be showing signs of false pregnancy. Are you sure she wasn't around any other males? In false pregnancy they act just like they are pregnant and can even get milk. She may have this because of her and the male "having fun" like you said. Hopefully she is not pregnant because 8 months is way too young and hard on their bodies. They are still puppies themselves at this age. Good luck!!

Damn !

hehe...

yes, im sure she hasnt been around another male dogs.
Sho i guess is just a psichosomatic pregnacy, we were so exited...

But yeah, i remember the VET saying that because of her size, we would have to wait before she got pregnant (she is Jack Russel/Tea Cup chihuahua mix).

IM happy for her... kinda sad for us.

Thanks for your post tho.

I'm not meaning to sound rude as I'm saying this, but there is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua. Just a really little runt, or unhelathy puppy. If you look at the breed standard for Chihuahua's it says the weight range is up to 6 pounds. There is really no room for a teacup in the Chihuahua breed. Also, why would you want to breed your mixed breed dog? I plan on breeding my Chihuahua in 2 years if her health is ok, but I'm getting things ready now. I'm saving up $2,000 for ER visits, if they should arrise. This is not including the whelping supplies, the many books that everyone should read when thinking about breeding a dog, and a whelping box. I plan on breeding my Chihuahua because she is a great example of the breed. And by breeding her I plan on getting better Chihuahua puppies to take to show. There are plenty mixed breed dogs in the shelter that are put to sleep everyday. Why add to that population? In breeding and selling these puppies are you willing to take them back for any reason, no matter how old, or what condition they are in? 13 years later are you willing to take back the dog you breed because the family can no longer keep him/her? Just some things to think about before breeding!!

I went and looked and it just says it in ()on her papers so i guess she is registered as just a chihuahua. But it does say Chihuahua(teacup) on her some of her papers

Just out of curiosity, what sort of papers do you have for a mixed breed dog? I didn't know that was possible.

There is no such thing as a teacup. Sorry that you were mislead. Here are some sites that will tell you the same. 2.5 lbs is a chihuahua. Did you pay more for a "teacup"? Most uneducated breeders say teacup and tiny toy to mislead the buyers into paying more. And the buyers usually think that they have a healthy puppy, when really its a runt that has LOTS of health problems. There organs are so small that they die in there sleep from heart problems. One trip off of a curb and they have 3 broken bones. Here are some sites.

Minnie is two years old and very healthy no I did not pay more for her. She was not the runt of her litter. Her brother was the runt he was so small I thought if I touch him I would break him. She was the most active and she took my heart from the start Minnie has feel off the couch and got accidently step on by my husband and has never had a broken bone.

I didnt say that your little Minnie would have this happen to her. But people wanting what uneducated breeders call "teacups" need to be aware of what they really are. Most breeders sell them for more, when they should be giving them away to a family that has the money, and time it takes to care for such a little puppy. I'm talking about grown Chihuahua's that are less then 2 lbs. I think that people calling animals teacups is getting out of hand... I saw an add yesterday for a teacup persian cat!!!!! Crazy, lol.

Just Give me a TEACUP break !

That was just a question about my little girl, is the name of the breed that important to you?
CUZ I CAN CARE LESS....

it might not be the "right breed name" but im not a doctor, i woulndt be asking this questions here if i were a VET

now, if you read my first post...
you would seen that i DID NOT WANT THEM TO GET STOCKED... gee... they didnt ask for my permision ! (i guess they need a CUP of education so they dont come up with an inmoral act)

SHE is not PURE BREED, or whatever you call it... but i love her anyway, as well as the other two...

OWNEDBYACHI...

PLEASE....

i dont know what kind of person you are, but i can asure you that if any of my dogs decide to "follow the mother's nature call" their babies WONT be on a shelter... i dont care if they are mixed or not..!

Would you put your baby for adoption if he/she was mixed?
I WOULDNT

Tks for you post tho,

The most time i spend with my pets i realize how ANIMALS can the "humans" be...

I am not trying to stir the pot here, but I have another question. I have an Australian Shepherd pup, about 5 months old. I am new to this breed. I have noticed now when I am looking through our pet ads that I see "Minature Australian Shepherds" for sale..is this another scam of poor breeding standards and a way for backyard breeders to get more money for their pups? Or is there such a thing as a Minature Aussie? I am just curious what anyone may know- the Tea-cup issue above made me wonder if this is happening to more breeds than we realize.
Thanks

yes its just another scam for ignorant or selfish breeders to make more money off their dogs. Any miniature or toy breed was a result atleast originally of bad breeding. They tend to have more health issues. A toy poodle for example was originally produced by breeding smaller and smaller poodles to get the result that they have today and people are still out there to make dogs even smaller because that is what this world is coming to people want cosmetic dogs which is why the amount of mixed breeding going on right now is so high. People want specific mixes and are willing to pay purebred prices for them. I dont agree but it is just my opinion. I prefer to keep the sanctity of the breeds we have now. I see what backyard breeding does to dogs. I rescue rottweilers. and I have seen the result of backyard breeding. Hip displasia, eye issues, chronic ear infections, bubble heads vs the rottie standard block head, excessively large rotties far outside of the standard, but most of all due in part to bybs I have seen temperament issues. My 3 year old rotty was bred for size as such when I got her she was 50 pounds above standard. She is a block, very wide which is not how they should be. She also has what I call a bubble head her head is rounded not square like rotty heads should be. Her skull at the top comes to an almost point. Which means that she was most likely bred for size and grew to quickly. Due to her bad breeding she suffers from some issues at 3 years old she already is showing signs of hip dysplasia, she gets ear infections quite frequently, she has some attitude issues that were caused by bad breeding and also by how she was raised. And what is sad about all of this. Is my 2 year old rotty looks and acts like the perfect rotty both in temperament since she is a total sweety and her looks. SHe was from a shelter. Daisy my 3 year old who i rescued from a guy who let her get away with everything until he couldnt handle her anymore has alot of issues. But I have AKC papers for her. This is where the dog clubs are messing up. They give papers to pretty much anyone who breeds. Puppy mills get AKC papers for their pups. Daisy is totally outside the standard and has a temperament that I would never want he to be bred. The possibility of having mor rotties with her issues whould not better the breed. But people dont think about this. The sole purpose to breed is to better the breed. Not make new ones, not to make money, not even because you think your dog is cute and think her puppies would be cute. But to better the breed. If both the male and female did not go through conformation, genetic testing along with overall health tests. Then you should not breed. There are way too many homeless dogs out there. SO many that rescues have to turn dogs down. It should not be that way. Yet people continue to breed or continue to have oopses cuz they dont get their dogs fixed. It is frustrating as a rescuer because as a rescuer you decide the fate of the dog. You know that if you dont take the dog the dog will be euthanized but at the same time you know you cant save them all. And while you sit crying because you have no more room and the dog you saw yesterday is being put down today you also think of the thousands of people out there that are breeding their dogs just cuz they think they are cute. WIthout thinking of the fact that the puppies their dog is giving birth to now most likely in a year, or two, or 5 or 10 will end up in a shelter with its ultimate fate the same as the dog that just died there today.

This is a shame. So, why aren't there tougher laws about breeding and what can we do, what can any of us do to try and change this? There has to be some way to try help this situation. Where do we go from here if we want to try and get stricter laws, and enforcement of these laws with regard to breeding? Isn't there some kind of task force or way to get laws and rules established to help this situation? It seems that there is more we should be doing to protect the future of purebred breeding, and the overall population of dogs that are having to be put to sleep everyday. This doesn't seem to be solving anything in the long run if we cannot get laws estabished with regards to breeding, not only to protect the integrity of the purebred dog, but to help stop the irresponsible backyard "Whoops" going on as well. I don't have answers- however, I would take action if I knew what to do. What can we do? I am not a breeder, nor do I plan on becomming a breeder, but I respect the people who are doing it in a responsible way, with the animals best interest and breed standards at heart. I understand certain things I should and shouldn't do as a responsible pet owner, but I am talking about making laws tougher- how do we go about that?

hi there this is an intresting post i agree that there should be a law against irresponsible breeding i brred german shepherds and i would never dreamof cross breeding them, the breeders that just mix and match dogs for breeding all they can see is $$$$ and it isnt about the money because they should soon find out that you spend more money on keeping the dogs healthy and disease free than making any all my dogs are pure breds and i have also bred 4 champion show dogs but all in all these backyard breeders should be stopped but there is no law to stop this i wish there was as it makes me angry knowing that these type of dogs end up neglected and have alot of health problems

Just to play devil's advocate....

I agree that irresponsible breeding is horrible. People who breed dogs to try to make a buck, or who breed unhealthy parents trying to get a smaller dog...or bigger dog....or whatever the goal is, should be punished.

BUT, as far as the mixing breeds thing goes - how do you think we got the breeds we have now to begin with? If you breed two HEALTHY specimens of different breeds, I don't think you are necessarily creating an unhealthy dog.

A lot of purebred dogs are bred irresponsibly, and a lot of purebred dogs have genetic tendencies toward some really nasty diseases. Some are too inbred and this makes the problem even worse.

Many people say "mutts" are healthier dogs, because they don't have all the inbred faults of their purebred parents.

So I guess I am not opposed to the responsible breeding of healthy dogs for the love of dogs and not for profit, whether we are talking about mixed breeds or purebreds. Of course, "responsible" also implies the pups will have good homes and not end up in shelters.

The difference between the mixing of dogs in the past and the mixing of dogs now is dogs that were mixed in the past were made to perform a specific job. There was a purpose. They were not bred to find the cutest dog or make the smaller mixed poo or other breed mixing that is going on now. Dont get me wrong I dont think large dogs should be mixed either but the problem right now is people want cosmetic dogs. They are bred for looks nothing else and to get a dog that doesnt shed. Look at the pomeranian for example. That dog should never have been made. The pom won best in show last year and the pom that won had to get nose surgery to help him breed better. What does that say about what is going on. Im not saying it is even all breeders, its also the people out there who want cutesie dogs, and the dog clubs that are allowing unehealthy dogs to be shown because they also are into the cutesie fads. For example, the shows in Germany each judge only judges one specific breed not 20. The dogs are not allowed to be touched the dogs must go into the proper stance on their own. The dogs are judged for their ability to do their job not cuz they look good. This is how this country needs to go back to judging dogs. Because due to the irresponsible breeding of people not doing genetic testing, using great bloodlines and having their dogs confirmed before they breed is what is causing the purebreeds out there to be having problems. And as far as the mixing goes, I feel if someone is breeding two different breeds to make a different breed the dog should be being bred for a purptose. For a specific job that there isnt a dog out there to do. Due to the lax in government and dog clubs doing what is right the dogs in this country are the ones that are suffering. And until something is done about the millions of stray and abused dogs in this country I dont think any other breeds should be made.
