HELP me please! I am on to day 3 of my lil Kennedy whining constantly. I really feel bad about leaving here there to cry like that. I've taken her to the vet (for her 1st check-up) and there is nothing wrong with her physcially. But the crying is driving me nuts and I can't get any sleep.

I moved her from the crate to a box so that I could keep her with fresh food and water since she is soo tiny (only 2.6 pds)and the wants her to eat often. But the whining continues..

Tonight I plan to try the heating pad and worn shirt idea combined with a ticking clock.. Wish me luck! :>

And if anyone out there has any other great suggestions please...PLEASE share them with me..

She's absolutely adorable but the crying is driving me nuts!

Do you let her out at night? She is too young to "hold it" through the night and at her age she may have to go 2-3 times at night. I think you need to put her back in the crate and forgo the food and water at night. It will help her not have to go out so much at night. It can be exhausting especially if you have to go to work in the morning but it is necessary for the puppy who is trying so hard not to mess the crate! I take away water at least 1-1/2 hours before my dogs go into their crates (even as young pups). She is very young and most breeders do not let their pups away from their mother until 8-12 weeks. That might be the problem also. The heating pad and clock is a great idea too. Remember it will take time and she is still a baby and you have only had her three days and it will take at least a few more weeks or so for both of you to get used to each other. You need patience with this and it will pass with time. Having a puppy is just like having a human baby and sometimes it is easy to forget that. As she gets older it will get easier! Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the advise Karriesue
I am pleased to report that last night was a much better night. I think the heating pad and the clock helped out a lot.

Although she did whine a little off and on I was able to handle that much better than the constant whining. Not to mention the fact that she is starting to find her own way to the puppy pad! I was so excited about that..!

As for the food in her box. She surpised be again last night when she showed me that she was about to get she little self out of her box so I quick moved her from the box back to the crate. So there was no food in the crate.

Since I have to work I'll just have to try and do 3 feeding per day until she gets a little bigger and then we'll go to 1 or 2 feeds per day.

Also thanks for the 1.5 food/water cut off b4 bedtime. I'm going to start particing that one tonight! >

My sister's kitten (who was very young to leave his mom) liked to sleep snuggled with a stuffed animal (along with the ticking clock). If your little guy doesn't shred it, that might work as well.

How old is the little guy?

I have a little shih tzu mix that whined a lot at first too. One thing that helped was placing her crate on top of the bed and putting my fingers through the gate for a little bit until she went to sleep. Not too comfortable, but the quiet was worth it! This helped her get used to the crate without the separation anxiety.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the GREAT advice! Kennedy is doing much MUCH better with the whining. She actually sleep threw the night last night without making a sound until about 5am. I thought that was AWESOME!

Not to mention that I've started her on the puppy pads and at only 6 wks old she is remembering to go to it to do her business everytime!! I'm too excited..lol

Last night was also her first bath (since I've had her).. She didn't like that much at all! But I guess that will get a little better as time goes on..

Don't be surprised or disappointed if she takes a few steps backwards in the housebreaking at some point. Sometimes they seem to know what they are doing and then suddenly stop doing it. Rest assured that if this does happen, she will eventually snap out of it and go back to being good.
