I don't think they sweat, which is one of the reasons they can overheat so quickly.

Yes, dogs do sweat. When they pant and you see saliva droplets coming out of their mouth rolling down their tongue (I'm not talking about drooling, that one is breed spcific), that is their sweat. Also, their paws sweat. This is why they can get smelly (the paws), and they need a bath. But no, dogs don't sweat like we do, if you mean through their skin. IP: Logged |

Drooling is breed specific? I did not know that. Samson is half rottie, half mastif. He only drools when he's content. He doesn't drool when he sees us eating, or any other time, just when he's getting his belly scratched or when he's invited up on the sofa! IP: Logged |

Shade, I think I made a mistake when I said drooling was breed specific. Well, it's just that "big wide snouted" breeds, like the mastiffs, bloodhounds, basset hounds, saint bernards have a tendency to "splatter around" more than other breeds. You get the idea.... It's not like saying that my GSDs won't start drooling when they roam around us when we grill outside... IP: Logged |

Thanks for the clarification there, Dogangel! I am a relatively newcomer to having dogs in my family! When I met my husband he had a dog, and it was the first dog I had around me for..um 30+ years! I'm trying to figure alla this out. IP: Logged |
