I've looked via "search" and I've not seen a similar topic, but am wondering how you hooked up with your pet/s.

I have Samson the Rottie/Mastif mix dog because:

1) Our landlady won't let us get a cat

2) Our landlady used to belong to our old beloved Doggie, Short Rib, and by coincidence, we ended up renting her house

3) Samson was a humane society dog that my husband fell in love with. He had also taken the kids to see this dog. They fell for him too.

4) and... on the day of my five year old son's birthday, after the party, my husband said "Oh, let's show Shade the dog in the pound!" We also had the neighbor girl with us, giving her a ride home... so, I'm all saying "yes, he is a pretty dog..." and my husband says "GUESS WHAT!? We can take him home today if we want!!! They've checked our refrences and we're good to go!"

Of course, all the kids were hopping up and down with joy! I wasn't employeed at the time, and quite frankly wasn't ready for a new dog.

But, I ended up being the person that Sammy bonded with, since I was the person left at home with him.

How'd you find your pet? What pets do you have? Tell it here!

P.S. Other pets I have = fish, and piranha, and I'd give anything to have a kitty!

Dooley is my 2.5 year old Aussie X, I was on a waiting list with a breeder for an Australian Cattle Dog when at a horse show I saw Dooley, the woman had a huge litter of puppies in the back of her truck. They all looked like yellow labs except Dooley, he was blue merle from head to toe. His mom is a pb black and white Aussie and his dad is a pb yellow lab. I just couldn't resist his cuteness and I had already done so much research on herding type dogs that I knew he would fit right into the family, so $35 and a handshake and he was mine.
Dooley was supposed to be my dog, and I have done all the training with him. He loves me dearly and is very loyal to me, but it is my husband he bonded with the most, he thinks he is GOD. I still wanted a dog all my own, not one I had to share ( cause I'm a brat that way), so when he was almost two years old, I started looking again. I wanted a Catahoula, the problem is that most breeders are located in the southern states. I started looking on the rescue site and Petfinder, I came across a puppy in California that was half Catahoula and he was beautiful. I talked to the woman who had rescued him, his mom and siblings from the pound. After much e-mailing and many phone conversations I had learned enough about his personality to think he was the pup for me, we tried to put together transport, but nobody wanted to drive through the MT.s in February. I didn't think I was going to get him and it broke my heart. My husband as a Valentines gift said he would drive me to California to get him and we did. It was a great adventure filled with anticipation and never has a puppy felt so good in my arms as Witt did in the parking lot of a hotel in California. He is everything I hoped he would be, he has turned out to be my heart and soul dog, he prefers me to everyone (which the brat in me absolutely secretly loves!), and he gets along great with Dooley. Twice I have wanted to get a pb dog...and twice I have ended up getting a rescue, I guess thats just the way it was meant to be.
