Hey everyone.. my dog started this a couple weeks ago. I have no idea why he does or how to get him to stop.. when we go to walk out a door he comes leaping at it and dives at the door and barks.. he does it to the front door and the door between the living room and dining room. He will do it no matter who goes through the door and even if someone else is in the room he still does it. I firmly say "NO" when he does it but that doesn't seem to help... we get him to sit and stay and that works sometimes but always. What I don't know is why he is doing it.. it seems like hes mad at the door or something, I'm just worried that one of these times he will end up diving right out the door.. can anyone help me??

Maybe he just doesn't want you to leave? I think a consistent sit-stay will be your best bet, with lots of praise for doing it correctly. However, if you are leaving and there is no one left in the house to release him, that may be troublesome.

Perhaps some practice with you and everyone in your family leaving and coming back in, over and over....dogs SO love repetition.

Thanks! I'll keep up the sit/stay method! Everytime someone left today I had him to that, I just contiuously said "stay" and everytime he stayed. He wouldn't wait for the release.. he ran over and looked out the window but I'm gonna do one thing at a time.. I'm just happy he didn't run at the door.
