She doesnt react at all to any toy i get her, be it a mouse or ball. i'm not very hopefull it can be sorted out but i'd love a hint on how to emtertain her. Rayray. Charmed is right. When I adopted my 1 year old terrier mix he did not know what to do with toys and did not play with anything for nearly six months, Then we finally got him to chase a tennis ball. Since then in the past nearly three years he loves balls and any squeaky toy. Now my poodle she really does not play with much, an occasional shake of the sock toy(socks knotted together) whne she is excited about going out. But she fears the balls and always thinks we are going to throw it at her. Nor does she care for any other household toys we have bought. She love her chew bones though. So give it some time. I think that is pretty common when you have a new dog. My Aussie was very quiet and mellow for about a week after we got her. She was about 12 weeks old, had not been socialized and was now in a new house, with other animals, children etc. It takes time to see their little personalities come out. Keep reinforcing good, happy positive experiences and I bet she will perk up. If she doesn't, a check-up with the vet would be in order to make sure there isn't an underlying problem. You did not say much about the Westie's past- do you know much about her environment before you got her, or can you call and ask more questions? Also, I always check to make sure dogs can hear when I am working with them. In the obedience work I have done you would be amazed at how many owners do not realize their pups have hearing loss or are completely deaf. They can be quite mellow, very sweet, and somewhat unaffected by "toys" and playing until their owner understands how to communicate with them. Just a thought- Let us know how things are going.
