The little puppy we just adopted, a rescued emmaciated 7 months old German Shepherd is doing just great, hegained 10 pounds in 10 days, and is now running and playing with my other 3 big babies, well, he tries to play with my two little Dachsies too, but they don't seem to appreciate his big mountain lion paws for some reason...
That is the good news. The bad news is that I found out he has tapeworms - the only way you can tell that is just by looking at their poop, since this is the one kind of worm that won't show up in any kind of vet test. He is on Sentinel AND Frontline now, so fleas are colmpletely out of the picture. We went to the vet, and he got two kind of pills that were supposed to kill those worms, but as of today (three days later) I still see some tapeworm segments in his poop - not as many, but still....)I will call the vet again today, and tell him what's going on, but I would like to hear of some homeo kind of approach, since this little guy has already been taking TONS of pills for all of his other problems.

Hello :')

The best advise I can give you is, talk with your *Vet* about the best Flea and Tick Preventative for your dog.

Treating tapeworm can be a tricky task. The majority of Over The Counter treatments don't work and I'm *not* sure a Herbal treatment would work either.

I honestly understand your *concern* about giving your dog *another* pill, but, it may be the best thing in this case.

Please, don't wait!! Talk with your *Vet*

The ones that alarmed you that were in his poop were just the eggs or babies. I believe he still needs to rid his body of what was inside his body. Are they dead when they come out?

The tapeworms that you see in the poop are the segments. They are not viable on their own. The head of the tapeworm attaches to the intestines, as it grow it sheds the segments which are what we see. Unless you get rid of the head, you can not get rid of the tapeworm. I am not aware of any natural remedies for tapeworms. They are the most difficult worm. You have the treat them with a seperate product. When my cats had tapeworms, I got pills from my vet. They were 10.00 a piece I think. I have seen one tapeworm product advertised on a pet medicine website, but I haven't seen any OTC products at stores.

I called the vet, and he told me to give it til Monday, and then come back to him for more pills... Since the segments are still there, I guess Willy will have to just swallow some more pills...
I'm just afraid the others don't get it now!!

If he won't swallow the pill put it in a chunk of chicken. That is what I do everyday. Just make sure to clean up fast after your dog goes and keep an eye on the rest of the gang.

The other animals can't get tapeworms from the one that has them. To get tapeworms, they have to ingest a flea that is infected with them.
