That is a great idea. There are so many dogs that need homes and if you can adopt that is the best. There are some issues to think about. For instance, if you get a dog that was abused it might take some patience and alot of love to nurish the dog back to a good state. The next dog I get will be from a shelter. I wish I could save them all!! But one at a time is better then none.

I think this is the best thing anybody can do! All of those babies at the shelter may not have a pedigree, but they are marvelous.
Blueice, I have six dogs, and ALL of them are rescues! They are my joy and fun, and everythink else there is to a dog.
First you gotta choose a breed according to your life style, then do some research as to how to get prepared to welcome your sweetie (and a sweetie he or she will be, I assure you).

You also can check with your local Shelter or Humane Society.

Don't forget, Shelters often have pure bred dogs available for adoption.

We have always gotten our pets from shelters. It's one of the most rewarding things you can do.

I think (this is me being a bit crazy, but oh well) that shelter animals know that a loving home took them in when in need and repay with unconditional love. My animals always seemed to know that they were rescued. Don't ask how I know, I just do.

Hello

It all depends on the Shelter or Humane Society.

Where I live, the Humane Society charges a $75.00 adoption fee.

A Sheltie Rescue Group out of state charges a $200.00 adoption fee.

I would say, count on a $200.00 fee in case!
If it isn't that much, you could donate the remaining amount or purchase items for other dogs at the Shelter.

It really depends on the shelter. I got Rufus for 29.00. shots and all. My poodle at another shelter was 90.00. Not all shelters charge the same. With the cats a kitten can cost more than an adult. It could be the same for dogs. Rescue groups generally charge for the vet fees that they have applied to the pet. You may get a dog with problems that might not get resovled for a few years, but it is worth it. Like I said mine are both from shelters. My poodle had biting issues and put me the *ell and back and we are sooo very close now I love her thorally(sp) Its worth it, just be patient with them.

Our humane society charges a fee based on what the animal required when it came in. Dogs adopt out for about $120.00 cats $115.00. I got my pup from a rescue in California, I paid $200.00 and got $50.00 of it back when I showed proof of his being neutered. It depneds on what part of the country you are in, I've seen fees that were very low in other areas. Our County pound is alot less than the humane society.

As I said, all of my six babies are rescues. They were anywhere in between $250.00 and $75.00. It depends on the shelter... The rescue groups will charge more because they usually place them in a foster home before being adopted.

We recently adopted our Max from the local Human Society. He was $110 and came neutered, they also gave us a certificate for a free exam at a vet of our choosing. In addition they give us discounts on training programs they offer. We thought it would take a long time to find a puppy at the Humane Society, because we were always told they go really fast. Max and his litter were there for only 3 hrs before they were all adopted. We just happened to be there at the right time I guess!
