Hi All, I thought it would be really interesting to know what everybodys favourite breed of dog is so now is your chance to let us all know. I'll start by saying that in my opinion the best breed is The Boxer! Check out my boxer Merlin at www.pets-of-pride.co.uk [This message has been edited by Rich (edited 07-24-2003).] IP: Logged |

Gosh, this is just too hard because I fancy quite a few breeds. I own a min poodle and a terrier mix. But I love german shepards, we had them when I was a kid besides other breeds. I love there gate. I also really like the border collies. very cool dogs. The chinese crested hairless also peaks my fancy. But right now for me I guess its the poodle, I love the way they prance and watching one play just makes me feel so happy. Though this is purely one persons preferance, not to say that boxers are not good dogs. I know for a fact that they rank just as high as golden ret. and labs as family dogs. They have such cute squishy faces too. Yours is cute. IP: Logged |

I have to agree with you about the poodles prance, they tend to bounce around without a care in the world. You are so right about Border Collies too as I had the pleasure of owning one but Max is no longer with us and I'll always remember the one pet hate I had with him....He used to insist on trying to drink the water from the flushing toilet! The amount of times I had to stop him is unbelievable but he was always full of beans and a real joy to have around ------------------ IP: Logged |

OOOOO this is a hard one, there are so many great breeds and mixed breeds are usually awesome dogs..nothing like a rescue or pound dog. For me, my match made in heaven is a Catahoula Leopard Cur. Following closely would be most any of the herding/working breeds. I find their versatility and intelligence to be well worth the commitment they require. Lately I have been eyeballing the Dogo Argentino for the same qualities. I have always been facinated with the Irish Wolfhound, but I know it is not the right breed for me, and the lifespan is sooo short, I'll just have to admire from a distance. IP: Logged |

This is a VERY hard question. I LOVE all dogs! I've had a Spaniel mix(Samantha) for almost 10 years,,she will be 10 in Oct.She is a sweet dog,,I love her VERY much! Two years age I got Cleo my Harliquen Great Dane.I don't think i would ever live without at least one Dane. They are the most lovable and silly dogs i've ever seen. Cleo is a BIG clown,,you tell her to sit,,she will turn, back up and sit right in your lap. I would love to get another Dane in the VERY NEAR future. Barbara IP: Logged |

Personally I dont feel there is a best breed just a personal choice for each individual. For me I am totally partial to my rottweilers. As the owner of two and the rescuer of many. There personalities are unlike what many people think. They are very devoted to you and extremely attatched to the ones they love. They follow you everywhere and cannot stand being away from you. They are big babies who want nothing more to do than curl up on your lap or snuggle with you in bed. Yes my dogs sleep with me and yes they do curl up got a picture to prove it.So for me my rotties are my favorite breed. IP: Logged |

Here are a couple pics. The first is a pic of Abby sitting on her Daddy. She normally does cuddle more than sit on top of you but she was being a goof that day. The second is her curled up on a corner sofa in the computer room.

And here is a pic of my two babies sleeping on Daisy's bed. Dont have enough room in our bed for both so Abby sleeps with us normally and Daisy has her own bed. Abby is the one at the top of the bed, Daisy is the one with her head down

I believe every breed is the best breed in some way or another!! The Golden Retriever is the best family dog When thinking of which breed is best for you and your family, rember to look at the entire picture. While the Golden Retriever is the best family dog, they don't always make the best breed for an inactive home. While the Border Collie is the best herding dog, they don't always make the best breed for a home that can't devote time to it and create a job" for the dog. While the Shetland Sheepdog is the most loyal dog, it isn't always the best breed for a home that can't stand a canine shadow. While I personaly adore the Shetland Sheepdog for many reasons and I will always have a Shetland Sheepdog, it is not a breed I can recommend to many people!!! IP: Logged |

The characteristics in a specific breed does not mean that a specific dog will be that way. A golden retriever used to be thought to be a good family dog. However with bad breeding and overpopulation and bad training the number of golden retrievers becoming aggressive is rising. It is up to owners to make their dog the best that it can be. By being responsible, training and spaying or neutering their dogs. It is up to each owner to make their animal a productive and welcoming member of society. IP: Logged |

First I wanna thank you all for the response and info gee, I am still reading on Dachshund sites.. My favorite breed today is the Boston Terrier. Loving, loyal, just so fun! But of course I had Ginger for many years and she was a tiny one at 10 lbs. Now in a year ask me again and I might just say a Dachshund cause Chelsea is just so much fun and funny running on her tiny legs with those big ears flopping...hehehe IP: Logged |

I really like all breeds but if I had to pick a favorite I guess I would choose a Bloodhound or just about any type of hound. IP: Logged |

Hi Guys, I posted this elsewhere but Didn't get many useful replies so just thought I would try it here too I'm at my wits end with my pet insurance policy as I've discovered that it doesn’t cover as much as I first thought. This panic has come about due to a little scare this morning. On the everyday morning walk the local park was subject to what I can only describe as a freak accident as some guys dog leaped into the air to retrieve a stick it's owner had thrown it didn't quite catch it right and as the dog landed the stick bounced off the floor and punctured the poor dogs face. This absolutely horrified me and it suddenly dawned that this could have been one of my dogs and I could have potentially been in trouble insurance wise. If anybody in the UK has a policy they could recommend, I would be extremely grateful. You can see my companions at www.pets-of-pride.co.uk IP: Logged |

The best breed for me... the APBT. They're athletic, courageous, and serious, but at the same time, fun. Another side of the breed that I'm seeing as Goo ages is that they never get "old", even when they age. Goo still loves a good game of tug or catch, a roll around on the floor, or a run in the yard as much as ever. I also like a lot of the "bully" looking molossers... ABs, Presas, Dogos, etc; though I don't know that I'd ever own one (maybe a few years down the road). And after a few years with Annie the Mini Dachshund, I can see me possibly ending up with another at some point... I'm not usually a "little dog" fan, but they're not so bad if they have the fire a drive of a big dog, just in a smaller "box" [This message has been edited by goob (edited 07-25-2003).] IP: Logged |
