I am dog sitting a friends dog and he dropped him off yesterday, I noticed he had green goop in his eyes. My friend said it had just started a few days ago and probably a cold. Would this be contagous? I have 2 dogs that is around him

Yes it could be contagious to your dogs. Green or yellow discharge to the best of my know how signals infection. However, I have a horse that gets yellow discharge in both eyes every summer, we think it is a combination of allergies and the bugs bothering him. We keep a fly mask on him and treat his eyes with Terremyiacin(sp?) when it gets nasty. Is the dog having any other symptoms? Terremyiacin can be purchased at a feed store and some pet stores, it's an ointment that goes in the eye for infections. I keep a tube in my tack room for the horses. I am NOT suggesting you use this without consulting a vet, and if the dog has other symptoms that could be a whole other ball of wax.

my best guess would be conjunctivitis (pink eye) which i think dogs can get (but i'm definitely not sure).. either way i would suggest you keep this dog away from your dogs until your sure it's not anything contagious.. maybe you can call a vet and get a more professional opinion.. if the vets suggest bringing the pup in explain the situation and maybe get in touch with the friend and let them know what's going on.. either way, if you find out what it is let us know please.. good luck

thanks for the info, unfortunately my dogs have been exposed, so hopefully its not contagous. The dog goes home tomorrow, I will watch them closely to see if any thing develops.
