Homemade Dog Biscuits
Make your own dog biscuits

In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of whole-wheat flour, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 3/4-cup nonfat dry milk powder, 1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats, 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal.

Cut in 1/3 cup shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in 1 egg.

Dissolve 1 tbsp. instant chicken or beef bouillon granules in 1/2-cup water then pour the liquid into the flour mixture as you stir with a fork.

Form the dough into a ball and knead on a floured board for five minutes. Divide the ball in half and roll each portion until 1/2 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter or shape your own biscuits.

Put six biscuits on a plate and microwave at medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until firm and dry to the touch. Rotate plate every two minutes and turn biscuits over after half the cooking time.

Halloween Pumpkin Stew
Dogs don't get to trick or treat much, so why not serve up their own special treat at home! 1 can pumpkin
1 cup rice milk
.5 cup millet
3 cups mixed fall veggies of your choice, chopped (carrots, beets, turnips, potatoes, etc.)
.5 cup quinoa
1 cup tempeh, cubed
2 tablespoons liquid soy lecithin
1 pinch cumin
1 pinch cinnamon
vegetable stock, water, or rice milk to cover

In a frying pan, saute tempeh in a bit of oil till browned.
In a large pot, combine all ingredients except tempeh.
Cook over medium heat till vegetables are tender (time will vary depending on your choice of vegetables.)
Stir frequently to prevent burning.
When vegetables are done, stir in the tempeh.
Serve with Canine Corn Bread, if desired, or over rice.

Veggie Bones

Ingredients:
3 cups minced parsley
1/4 cup carrots, chopped very fine
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella or
parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons bran
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 to 1 cup of water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, rack on middle level. Lightly grease a large baking sheet.

Stir together parsley, carrots, cheese, and oil. combine all the dry ingredients and add to veggies. Gradually add 1/2 cup of water, mixing well. Make a moist but not wet dough. If needed, add a little more water. Knead for one minute.

Roll dough out to 1/2 inch thickness. Using cookie cutter or a glass, cut out the shapes and transfer them to the baking sheet. Gather the scraps and re-roll and cut.

Bake for 20 - 30 minutes until biscuits have browned and hardened slightly. (They will harden more as they cool.) Speed cooling by placing them on wire racks. Store in airtight tin.

K-9 Dog Biscuits

Ingredients:
3 cups of flour (any combination of white, whole wheat, rye,
cornmeal or oatmeal)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup crisco, margarine or meat drippings
1 egg
1/2 cup liquid (beef/chicken broth, gravy, water or milk)

Combine the flours and garlic powder. Add the shortening.
Blend until crumbly. Add egg and liquid and mix.
Form dough into balls and knead a bit. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick and cup into shapes or use a cookie cutter. Bake on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack and store in a cool, dry place. This will make 2 dozen biscuits. It isn't hard and it is fun to make. Just a little time consuming. Make them for your special dog and he will love you! I find the dogs like it best when made with chicken broth.

The above recipe was taken from the book "Creative Cooking of Cape Cod"

A great recipe for putting on weight!

Satin Balls
Submitted by Diana Carreon

Cheap hamburger meat [high fat content}
Lg box of Total Cereal
Lg box of uncooked oatmeal
1 jar of Wheat Germ
1 1/4 cup of veg oil
1 1/4 cup of unflavored molasses
10 eggs
10 pks of unflavored gelatin
Garlic to Taste
1 cup of flaxseed...ground up.
2 scoops of Source/Kelp
Take all dry ingredients and place in a bowl. I crunch up the total while still in the box, and then pour all the other dry ingredients over it In a another large bowl put the hamburger meat and the wet ingredients. Mix each bowl well, then half each so that it is easier to mix. Mix just like you would a meatloaf I then take it raw, and place in freezer bags and put in the freezer, thaw out a bag as needed. feed raw. I use this not only as a quick weight gain, but as a everyday supplement for my dogs this recipe has been tested and analyzed by several universities and was found to be a total canine diet a dog could live on this without added kibble or any other supplements...this was before I added the Garlic and the Flaxseed and Kelp I have long hair black dogs, and this recipe really keeps their coat black/soft/long since I have...the past 6 months I have had no vet bills...and my dogs coats are wonderful, you need to watch how much you feed it will put weight on a slim dog in a matter of a few day.it will also make an easy keeper fat in just a short period of time. Try it, your dogs will love it!!! One other thing, I have just started to add Kelp to it also, just for the added Iodine, may be good for those dogs that have a lower normal thyroid function.let me know if anyone tries it that way. You can make this recipe in what ever amount you need/want by just halving the recipe down to what you want.
