When we first got SHUG, the Vet Wormed her, and we have wormed her since....ONCE A MONTH.

Problem is: we are still seeing worms (roundworms). Just once or twice a month, but we are still seeing them and they are alive when they come out....sorry...but tis true.

We are giving her STRONGID/PYRANTEL....shouldn't this be doing the trick?

I can't stand thinking she has this and I know it harms her and they eat her good NUTRIENTS.

Can anyone help me ? IS this particular brand NOT WORKING FOR HER ? Can I give it to her more often than once a month ?

THANKS A BUNCH, SHUG'S MOM

we use strongid/panacur mix and we get it from the vet...it might be different..i'm not sure... it gets rid of the 4 major types of worms (exception of heartworms) and you worm them once every 7 days for up to 3 weeks...if that doesn't quite get rid of them, wait one week and then do the routine again and check to see if it worked then. it should do the trick...hopefully..

Hi Sugar, Problem is finding out why there is a reoccurrence in the first place. You might want to ask the vet about your dogs digestion tract. It might not be as clean and strong as it should be, leaving it the perfect host for worms. Many vets treat the worms but strengthening the body to prevent the worms should be the first goal.

Raw & cooked pumpkin, garlic, and pumpkin seeds are all supposed to be good to help expel worms. The pumpkin (like any veg) given to dogs must be pureed first.

Here is an exerpt taken from a site I have bookmarked: http://www.bullovedbulldogs.com/worms.htm
"Seeing as we have already talked about the importance of diet, let's start there. Vitamin A is very helpful, some would say essential, in the prevention of roundworms. The body produces its own vitamin A but it must have a source of carotenes to do it. Therefore feeding foods high in carotenes should be helpful in dealing with roundworms. Carrots are probably the most well known source of carotenes. In addition to the vitamin A they enable the body to produce, they provide roughage to help in expelling the roundworms. Not surprisingly, feeding grated carrots is an old remedy for roundworms. Many other foods also supply carotenes however. Collard greens, mustard greens, spinach, and broccoli are just a few and they are lower in carbohydrates than carrots."

If you go to the site it goes into more detail.

Thanks guys....I read the article ...real good. I would like to get to the point where I treat SHUG with only natural stuff.

I like the raw grated carrots one in particular. I want her healthy inside out and not just treated with more chemicals. I have learned these things about my own intestinal tract and how important ENZYMES are.

I will study futher. I am giving her a TREAT that is a SAUSAGE LINK and I'm thinking there's no telling what they put in it. It's by Sargent....but I still do not think I'll continue to give it to her.

She is EATING GRASS too....having a time making her stop....and I suppose the worms from actually be coming from the ground in the grass she eats.

Like I said....it's not like we see a LOT of them....just one every month or so....but that's too many for me and that means there's more, so we must eradicate them...and make her healthier.

Thanks again,

I can't remeber what sort of worm it was, but there is a worm that can be gotten just from walking outside. They can recur over and over until you can kill them off. As they said there are quite a few different ones to deal with. I had my poodle dewormed at the vet just as a precausion, as I did not know her past.

I believe it is the hook worm that you can get from walking outside. They can get in threw the pads of the feet or the soft part of the dogs nose. My little one has round worms. to see something so cute, throw up worms... really left me tramatized. The doctor gave her some medicine and she has to take more in 10 days. I'm going to give her the raw carrots as well.

just make sure the carrots are pureed or grated up finely. This pertains to all veggies, since dogs can not easily break down the cellulose in plants.

Man...I do not know what's going on.

MOST OF THE TIME....My little Sugg (SHUG) has a CLEAR STOOL, and then all of a sudden, about once a month, out will come round worms.

I am giving her strongid once a month....is this killing them off and that's why they are coming out....isn't this a good thing?

THEN, we won't see ANYTHING for a long time.

She has been eating grass when we go OUTSIDE...I stay on her, but she gets it before I can get her to stop....I think that maybe where they are coming from. We take such good care of her, but we are campers and went camping last weekend. We walk her where TONS of other dogs have been and I know that's a HOT SPOT TOO.

ANYONE help me ? If they are coming out after I give the strongid, am I getting rid of them, and why I don't see anymore for a long while ?

I'm so worn out with this, and so want her to be HAPPY/HEALTHY.

She is NOW ON NUTRA/INNOVA, so I know it's not her food, for she is FLOURISHING ON IT.

THANKS GUYS, Sugg's Mom

My only thought is that you are still treating the ailment but not the cause. Did you speak with your vet or a homeopathic vet about your dogs disgestive tract? As I said before about the stomach -

"It might not be as clean and strong as it should be, leaving it the perfect host for worms. Many vets treat the worms but strengthening the body to prevent the worms should be the first goal."

I would look into ways (via homeopathic vet) to strengthen your dogs body and immunity since there is so much reoccurance and obviously the worming isnt helping.

You may have to worm her more often than once a month until you get these under control. Are you cleaning up her stool each time she goes? She could be reinfecting herself this way.

Jas, can I get the raw pumpkin from a can? Would this be good or maybe a jar of baby food carrots. Miette is going through the same thing with worms. It's creeping me out. I didn't go through this with Teddy so I'm trying to figure out what I should do. This will be her 4th worming and she is still pooping out worms. The first week I got her she threw up three round worms. (The Horror!!!) and how often should I give her the pumpkin or the carrots? I was thinking I could give her a teaspoon a week of the baby food carrots.
