Are you using a crate? If not it is something you may want to consider as it makes potty training alot easier. You must be consistant and patient and you should never punish the puppy for accidents especially after the fact. Feed him on a schedule so you have a better idea of when he will have to go.Take him outside often especially upon waking from a nap, after play sessions and after eating or drinking. Use a phrase like "Gotta go out?" before taking him outside and praise him after he goes...maybe even give him a treat for going. Keep your eyes on him at all times while he has free roam inside the house and watch for signals that he may have to "go" such as sniffing, squatting or circling and get him outside at soon as you notice any of these things. There is also a potty training book called "Potty Training Is Possible" at Petsmart for about $5.00 which you may find very helpful. IP: Logged |

the best thing i've found is installing a doggie door...they know it's for them only and they love to use it...I've had better luck with potty training since installing the door and I remind them to go out every couple of hours...i think sometimes puppies get so busy playing or so excited, that they actually forget.. just be firm and use the same commands...a pup generally has to be about 8 weeks old to really grasp the idea and then they have to practice "holding" it...they are so much like little kids.. good luck!!
