Hi, I have a 5 month old lab/golden retr. mix he is barking way to much. We live in an apt. and when I take him out to use the bathroom if somebody walks by close to me he will bark and growl non-stop. Also you know how people are they always try to approach us and he does not like it and gets very aggitated, and then people think that he is mean and they have threatened to call the police. He has never bit anybody he just seems to be very protective. If the person is walking by but does not make eye contact with him or me then he will just ignore them. Everyone at my apt. complex hates me now and it is starting to worry me. Can they call the police just because he barked at them? Anyway does anybody have any suggestions what I should do? Please Help!!!!!!! I should also say he does not do this to everyone it is like he picks and chooses who he will bark at and he always does his little puppy pose, you know the one where puppies lower their front half and stick their butts in the air like he wants to play, but barking the whole time.

If your dog is only 5 months and acting this way you need to see a behaviorist and also an obedience trainer. A 5 month old puppy should not be showing signs of agression at that age. My suggestion would be get your dog in an obedience course and teach your dog a shush command. The obedience course will help him with basic obedience along with socialization skills. I would also contact a behaviorist in your area and talk to someone about the dog. If you dont get it corrected now it will only get worse and you could end up with a dangerous dog on your hands.

I agree with RottyMommy above, it sounds like your pup has not gotten any socialization at all, you will need to learn some skills with the help of someone experienced, obedience classes will offer that and the socialization your pup needs. My dogs have been taught "enough" and "hush", "enough" means stop what you are doing now. "Hush" obviously means be quiet. It would hope it matters to you what your neighbors think of you and your dog, it is important when you take your dog out into public that he is well behaved, well mannered and not threatening. If your neighbors are complaining and threatening to call the police....there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Do your part is resolving that for the sake of your dog...it is the dog that will suffer in the end if you don't. I did not mean any rudeness in that statement, just my opinion and trying to be straight forward with you. I hope you are able to work through this with your guy, keep us updated on how things are going.

Yes he needs alot of socialization. Maybe, just maybe if you want to make the people around you feel safer you could muzzle him until he is trust worthy. I would not want to do this myself, but it's something to think about. It will keep you from getting into deep trouble. Alot of people don't know that some dogs take a huge offence to being look straight in the eye.
