Please help!! My black lab/shep mix just got into the garbage and swallowed some chicken bones from a thigh and breast of chicken. I know that dogs should never have chicken bones...what, if anything, can I or should I do??? IP: Logged |

I am sorry no one answered this post sooner. I would say keep an eye on him for a day or so. When I was a youngester I had never heard of not giving bones to our dogs and we did. They were always fine. But doo keep an eye on him and make sure he is having normal bowel movements and is not acting sickly or anything abnornal. I think he will pass everything though but keep an eye on him. If he acts sick bring him to the vet. You know I have heard somewhere about dipping cotten balls into a liquid the dogs like and having them eat it. It is supposed to make whatever it sharp easier to digest. But don't quote me. Look it up online Ok. IP: Logged |

Our big lab loves food! lol and I forget what we were having for lunch....some kinda of steak or etc... and my dad threw a bone to him and he swallowed it whole!!! But he is fine...I didn't notice anything strange. So I wouldn't worry to much if this happens again. (I know accidents happen twice) IP: Logged |

Well was it raw? If it was raw, I would not worry, and like the other posters have mentioned, watch him, if he has odd behaviors then it might be time to worry. I have fed my dogs raw foods for a while and i used to give them (raw) bones and all. anyway, if it was cooked... well, did he swallow whole, or bite and eat it? If he bit it, theres a higher chance of danger, but still don't fret yet! One of my dogs did this before, and he was fine! good luck! IP: Logged |
