I have an 11 month old peekapoo. The groomer noticed a growth on her head, which is now oozing liquid. We have surgery scheduled for Wednesday. This will cost over $300. Has anyone heard of baby dogs getting cancer. Is this mixed breed more likely than others? I don't have alot of extra money to spend but will find a way, what are we dealing with here.

Hi sorry to hear the sad news but has your dog seen a vet to be sure this is cancer (sounds like you have been to the vet but i want to be sure)? Has the lump been biopsied? What did the vet tell you? Sadly cancers are becoming more prevalent in certain breeds & some dogs are more prone to it regardless of breed(s). It usually helps knowing the health background of the parents and other relations. It is a definite plus that this was detected early and that your dog is still young - better recovery chances.

Regards.

Jas makes some good points. The vet probably won't know if the lump is malignant until after the op, but it could be perfectly benign. There are all kinds of tumours an animal (and humans) can get, and most are not cancerous.

At your pup's age the chances of making a good healthy recovery are very strong. Good luck.

Can you call the Breeder/shop from whom you purchased your peekapoo from? Maybe you can find out if it is a genetic thing from the parents. Also, maybe you go to the shi/poo and toy dogs forum of auspet. That is if you haven't already. Some owners of peekapoos' might be able to help you. hope this helps.
