I reciently noticed some sort of bumps or rash starting on his hind quarters then progressivly moving to belly and arm pits they are hard course bump type things and he has chewed/scratched them open and hair loss around infected area has occured does anyone know what this is or how I should go about treatment?

Jjoker, it sounds like he may have an allergic reaction to something, and needs to go to the vet for medication and to see if they can id the problem. I may be on a sandbox here, and I have just posted many times on the quality food your pet eats and its relation to allergies. I have been doing extensive research on the quality of dog food due to my dogs allergies. And the findings on what they put in comemrical dog food is horrible and this is the cause of most skin problems not to mention other things. So I put my dog on a food called Innova, no wheat, corn or other by products. I know this is a controversial subject but I decided to go this route after spending a few thousand $$ on both my dog and cat with no relief from standard vetinary practices. An example, I just started taking my cat to a holistic vet because of his allergies. He has hayfever, and it is horrible last year it went into pheomonia. This vet said it is because of the food. That what they put in it is not meant for their diet dog or cat. it it compromises their immune system, so my cat is now on a similar food to my dog along with a few natural remedies. The vet also said this is not a cure all over night, but it takes one month for every year they are old to recover so I wont know if this diet helps for quite awhile and somtimes because their body is detoxing symtpoms may get worse at first. But I am at my ropes end so I am hoping this will help I am already noticing an increased energy level in my dog.
So I would look at what you are feeding your boxer too in addition to what the vet does.

I agree...what you feed your dog is very important. I too have done a bunch of research. Innova is an excellent food, my dogs did not find it palatable though, so I had to find others. I have also learned that you SHOULD, unlike the old advice, change your dogs food occasionally. That they can develope allergies to ingredients in their food when fed the same thing for long periods of time. Going to the vet is a good idea as well...you need to know what it is first, eliminate some things. Even if it is not allergies, a good food is still something to look into. If its not a food allergy then it could be mites(mange) in which the dog would need a few sessions with the vet to get dipped. About every ten days. about two or three dips. You can try to rememdy the bumps at home first by putting on an e-cone and cleaning bumps with sulfedine or just regular peroxide(this bleaches hair). my dog has that obsessive behavior where if he has the tiniest of a scratch or bump he will lick or scratch it until it gets much bigger. So I put on the cone and clean it until its gone, then all is safe until he congures up another one. Thank goodness not too often.
