do your dog take up ? We find that SUGAR takes up a LOT of time. We are empty nesters with a 7 month old Peekapoo and I know we have treated her as though she IS OUR BABY !!!

She seems to TAKE A LOT OF TIME....wants a LOT of attention and most of it is now spent BEGGING HER TO GOOOOOOOOOOO when she is outside since she has learned how FUN OUTSIDED IS.

We went camping this weekend, and I feel like a beaten down NEW MOTHER of a BABY....she was weirded out by the New Motor Home even though we took ALL HER STUFF...just like a baby and will be taking her to Orlando for 9 day with us next weekend.

My husband says I treat her like a human...not a DOG. I like the TIME spent with her most of the time, but sometimes I find myself WANTING some TIME ALONE.

IS THIS JUST WEIRD OF ME OR IS THIS kinda sorta the way it goes.

I have Fibromyalgia and Lupus so I know my health plays a BIG PART in my moods with her.

SHE WEARS ME OUT when I am barely able to take care of myself. I do not find MUCH THERAPY in it.....a LOT OF WORK....and a LOT OF ENJOYMENT, but I do get STRESSED OVER THIS DOG TOOOOOO !!!

I was a wreck thinking she'd SOIL our new Motor Home this weekend...cause she's been having a few accidents here and there.

We want to keep the thing REALLY NICE FOR RESALE in a few years, so it is not making it much fun to take her.

I am very tired now, can you tell.

ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS KIND OF DAY WITH YOUR LOVING PUP ???

You are not alone by any means. You have a puppy still so they have so much enegy you can't even imagine. I foster and at one time I had 5 3 month old shephard/husky puppies running through my house and I only had all 5 for one night and I was going mad after an hour. Than I had 2 of them for about 3 weeks. After they went to there new homes I told my fiance I would rather deal with aduly dogs with issues than deal with puppies again. Needless to say I seldom take in puppies. I have 3 dogs of my own a sheltie/lab mix and 2 rottweilers. Needless to say my dogs are my life. Rottweilers follow you everywhere. They are attatched to your hip and mine are no exception. My one is on my lap every chance she gets all 90 pounds of her. Abby is 2 and still has very much puppy spunk in her. Both my rotties were rescues so they each have some issues. But the clinginess does drive me nuts sometimes. And one of my rotties likes to sleep in the bathtub and the other one knows how to open doors which was not something I wanted her to learn but if we closed the door she couldnt stand it so figured out how to get to us. So it is a rarity I take a bath usually showers unless my fiance watches the dogs while I am in there. Rob has taken a bath twice and ended up with a rotty in with him. So wanting time alone I can totally understand. Most of the time I wouldnt want it any other way than to have my babies with me but sometimes I just want to curl up alone with a good book and not be given a rotty bath in the process or having one of them nudging you while you are trying to read. But the good definitely outweighs the bad by far. And in all honesty I wouldnt want my life with my dogs any other way.

Sugar and Rottymommy, I know how you feel. I have 2 dogs, one that would play frisbee 24/7 if someone could do this and a 100# lab that think he is a lap dog that follows me every where. i SAY iNEED A VACTION FROM MY DOGS, and then what do we do, we plan our vacation around them because we will miss them. Puppies are a lot of work but they are so worth it in the end.

Hi Sugar,

When I first adopted Reo, she would not leave me side. Just like Rottymommy, she followed me into the shower, cried when I left for a couple of hours, and went crazy if I tried to close to use the restroom! (She suffered from a little separation anxiety).

You should try to find some games your puppy can play on her own. My dog tends to be a handful, as she has so much energy, that sometimes at the end of the day I'm exhausted! Sometimes, when I need some alone time, I take a KONG Toy or a raw hide chew and stick some puppy treats and peanut butter in it. She spends at least an hour just trying to get through the peanut butter to the treats!

She also has what we call her 'spot'. Sometimes I tell her to 'go to the corner'. This is not a bad girl spot, it's simply her area to sit and relax. It has her dog pillow and plenty of toys. It's a nice retreat for both of us (if you have her crate trained, the crate will serve the same purpose).

Give it time. As stated in one of the other posts, she's a puppy so she needs a lot of attention now. She will discover her own little identity eventually. I'm happy to say that my dog Reo outgrew her attention starved phase pretty quickly...about 6 months after I adopted her. Just hang in there!

Good Luck!
Tina K
