We are hoping to find some help/info from you all. Our 1 yr old dog Sasha has been having trouble with her bowels on and off for the past 3 months (maybe evenlonger). She is under a vets care but i'm looking for someone who has had some experience with this. When she has a movement, it kindof looks like pudding and mixed with mucus. When she takes her med. FLAGYL (30mg) 1 time a day it is like a miracle. Movements are fine yet when she is off the meds in about 5 days her movements are pudding/mucus again. She has had all the worm meds again, changed over from purina chick&rice to Iams liver&rice. Even after slow switch and off meds still did not improve bowels. Doc said that it might be IBS yet we haven't gotten involved with blood testing or tests. He an us also do not want her to be on the meds for long term (longest has been 1 month straight)He thinks she might have trouble with novel proteins and suggests to next slow change over to a food for sensitive stomach. Mentioned a Z DIET dog brand food. Can't find info on it. Not sure what brand might work for her. Can anyone help us along with this. All info would be greatly appreciated! Sorry so long of a post yet so much had to be explained. IP: Logged |

Sounds like could be Colitis. These links may be of some use. http://www.isabellevets.co.uk/health_advice/dog/info/colitisdog.htm http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/colitis.html IP: Logged |

Bellasmommy, did you have to get the food "innova" from the vet or a major pet store? Also do you know what this food is make of (fish, beef, duck). Seems like the two I was looking into (Science Diet & Pro Plan ,purina) are made with fish, oats and some chicken. thank you for responding. IP: Logged |

4sunshines.. innova has to be bought from a specialty store (specialty pet shops, some groomers, and some natural food store carry it).. you can go to www.naturapet.com and find a location nearest to you that sells it.. the one i use is mainly turkey and chicken.. innova is more expensive than supermarket brands; however, it is made with less fillers and therefore the pup needs to eat less.. i had heard rave reviews about this food from other dog owners and tried it out.. i'm really happy with it.. look at their site, it has a lot of info, including different foods they make, the ingredients used and where to buy.. good luck to you and sasha IP: Logged |
