I have spent a fortune in shampoo already for my 6 month old Pek-a-poo.

She had never touched grass until we got her a month ago. WHY ? I have NO IDEA.

We are training her to go OUTSIDE...and she has scratched herself silly ever since we got her.

I used a tick and flea shampoo (good shampoo) on her first..and she scratched, then I was told to try the Oatmeal formula and put Oatmeal in a cheesecloth in her bath water and STILL she is scratching HER OUT OUT ????

I am so dismayed.....I have changed her diet to a high protein dog food and she loves it, but is still ITCHING.

She seems not to be able to do anything without having to STOP and SCRATCH.

HELP ?????????????????????????????????

Is there anything else I can do ????????? What could be the problem now. Carpet ? Grass ?

It is very possible that she has allergies.I suggest you take her to the vet and see what they tell you.
I have a dog that is allergic to dirt.He goes once a month to get a shot and I give him a benadryl every day.
You could try giving her a benadryl and see if that helps her.

Hi,
I am a fairly new owner of a six month old male Peka-poo. I got him when he was about 9 weeks old. ( He is so awesome!) I am especially glad you brought this subject up because my Peka-poo is exactly like yours in regards to scratching. I have been using a gentle puppy shampoo(commercial brand) and give him a bath approx. 1x a week. He scratches constantly!! I feel bad for him . I have tried three different kinds of food but he is still scratching. I am at a loss what to do. I was considering trying a different shampoo as well. Could it be just dry skin? His skin seems so fair under his fur. I am concerned now that the weather is getting hotter and worried about maybe sunburn (more dry skin) from just a little exposure. Any more suggestions????

Yes...I use human benadryl.Sense your dog is smaller than mine, you might want to try childrens benadryl. It comes in a liquid..I found it easier to give the liquid, that way you can just squirt it in their mouth and not have to worry about trying to get then to swollow a pill.

Great thanks....I wonder if the pill can be disolved in her water....and that way she would get it gradually.

I wonder if it would change the taste and turn her off to water...the pill form I'm talking about.

Michelle.....If you would like, write me at chocolat7772000@yahoo.com and let's see if we can help each other. We're going to the VET on Thursday. Thanks

My dog went thru about 4 different dog foods until we stopped at Innova. Hardly ever scratches now. Also mites or mange could be the problem. But if its not mange, mites then its the food. I might be trying the benydryl on my other dog which is a poodle. In the spring time she tends to wet up her feet after a walk. Try a very natural food. Also we use Mane N Tail shampoo and conditioner.

I have her on a dog food now that a vet at Pet Smart told me to try. It's not INNOVA...tried to find that...and they did not have it. Where do you buy it?

I THINK it could be her beloved treats...the one's with the yogurt and chocolate in them....or at least some form of chocolate. Little drops...she adores them and has been getting a lot of them while training outside.

I just hate seeing her itch to death...and not being able to help her.

I got a food that is LOW in PROTEIN that he gave me some card to be able to buy. It's catfish and ....?????? something else, by WALTHAM....ever heard of that ?

sugar.. i agree with previous posts.. it could be parasites (fleas, mange, etc.) it could also be allergies (anything from pollen, dust and grass to something in the shampoos or foods).. as for innova, i just recently switched to this one and my dog loves it.. you can find a retailer near you by visiting their website, www.naturapet.com
as for using benadryl, it definitely may work but please check with your vet on the proper dosaging for your pup..
either way i suggest you talk with your vet and look into allergy testing, if they don't find any parasites.. good luck

Hi Everyone,
I am currently giving my pekapoo Eukanuba puppy formula. Is this not a good one?? He was originally on "Precise" puppy food, then I went to Purina One for puppies.
He was treated for mites in his ears when I first got him but they have cleared and the vet did check him for fleas and she found none. I keep checking him periodically and don't find any.
I do use the "Mane & Tail" horse shampoo on my other outside dog. Have for a long time. It is good stuff. Is is ok for my puppy??
I have also tried to use different treats to see if it was that. Sugar, I feel helpless too! My email is kruellad101@netscape.net, maybe we can figure this out.

Thanks everyone,
Michele
P.S.
I am registered, I am having prob with my password they assigned me!!! I have to submitt my replies as "unregistered" til I figure this out.

I have the oddest password, and oddly enough for some reason I can remeber it. Sugar give your pup the puppy food until at least a year old. I don't see why you couldn't use Mane N tail shampoo on her. I had tried all the oatmeal shampoos. They did nothing for my itchy dog. I use either Johnsons Baby shampoo or the above. My aunt used Jonhsons baby shampoo on her poodles with out any problems. Its so wierd my poodle only gets itchy feet in spring. But other than that she never scratches. I would buy a small package of the new food to start out with. Some say to give half of the old food and half of the new, but obviously she is having problems with it. If you give all innova the worst that could happen is a little wetness in the stool (poop). Then normalness. Good luck. As with any food change that could happen.

Thanks for the advice Puttin. I went yesterday and purchased some Innova puppy food yesterday. I am going to try that. I made a booboo. The most recent food he was on was IAMS, not Eukanuba. I did purchace another shampoo to try. If not any help, I will try the Mane and Tail I have for my other dog.
I figured out my password prob. I was typing it in wrong, DUUUUHHHH. Yeah, mine is quite strange too and not hard to remember either.
My dog is going to the Vet on Sat. morn for the Lyme Disease vacc. Anyone out there had that done??? I know someone who had a shitsu that lives near me that was bit by a tic and got very sick and they suspected Lyme Disease. They almost lost him. We have a lot of grass, some pine trees around our house and he LOVES to run outdoors. Hope its a wise choice to get him the vacc. Sugar, why is your pekapoo going to the Vet on Thurs? For the itching problem???? Let me know how it goes.

Iams and eukanuba is the same company and it is being sued out the butt right now for giving wrong food suggestions and for how the treated the dogs they were using for experimentation. Solid gold and innova are both wonderful foods at the high end. I use Nutro natural choice lamb and rice for my dogs and have no problems with it as it is on the higher end of foods you can get in petstores. For itching and allergies i would definitely recommend seeing a vet allergies can be anything from food, dirt, grass, ragweed, you name it they can be allergic to it

Wow, glad I am not using the IAMS brand anymore, doesn't sound very good. Thanks for the info Rottymommy. I will be going on Saturday morn., hopefully I can get some more suggestions from them.

Sugar: I paid $11.39 for a small bag at The Kennel Shop. The size amt. on the bag was not in "lay" terms so to speak, lol, it says its 3kgs' (3 kilograms?)I was looking for the total oz.'s like my laundry detergent, hee hee. The bag is a bit larger than a small bag of IAMS puppy food. Expensive for my budget but IF it works it will be worth it and I will continue to buy it. Might have to bring back some bottles ( we have a bottle redemption law in Maine) for some extra cash to feed this mutt!

Thanks everyone, will let know also how vet visit goes.
Bye Bye for now!

the bag of innova does cost more than what you would pick up at your local petstore; however, since it has less fillers the portions are smaller and therefore you are paying almost the same amount..

I had a keeshond who have passed away several years ago. Anyway she had allergies to eveything under the sun. We litterly had to take her to get allergy testing . We spent 4,000 bucks in vet bills alone in 2 years. She was allergic to pennicilan, cigerette smoke, FLEAS, pollen, grass. She also had to get shots and eat a lamb and rice based food without dyes in it. Use a special shampoo I got from the vets for about 8 dollars. WE have to be perfect on putting frontline stuff on her for fleas. The vet had to redflag her for the penicillan alergy. One time they made a mistake and I wasn't back ther. They brought her out and she was swelling up.
Anyway in the long run the changes we made did the trick and she lived a happy healthy life. Good luck.

Sugar, Just one thing I picked up in one of your earlier posts - be careful not to give her too many choccy treats. Too much chocolate in any form can be very bad for dogs.

I'm not saying this is causing the itching, but I don't think it would be helping.
