My blue tick had a litter of 9 puppies 3 days ago and today I found one dead and another very ill. He is very weak and a little skinny. I figure that's because of there being so many puppies that not everyone got enough milk. But what I'm worried about is every so often he makes a loud noise and stretches out and gets all stiff and sticks he's tongue out and bubbles come out, I thought he was dead but in a few seconds he goes all soft again. He's done it 4 times today and I'm not sure if he's got epileptic seizures, or what it is. If any can help I would sure appreciate it!

Sounds like it might be canine herpes. you need to take them to the vet ASAP.

I called the vet and they said that it sounds like he's having seizures because of malnutrion. He told me to get some puppy milk from Petsmart and just wait it out for a day or two. The seizures are getting better as the day goes by. The second was 20 minutes after the first and the third and fourth were 2 hours between each other and this last one was at 4:30; it's almost 8:00 now and he hasn't had another. He's eating pretty good, I've seen a lot of improvement throught out the day!

I'm sorry but in a day or two you can lose all the pups.I would insist he see the pups right away,, if he won't I think you should find a vet that will.
Hope all pups, are better soon.

The seizures are probably "getting better" becasue his brain is shutting down. This is not a problem of milk. Get those puppies to the vet unless you want them to die.

The puppy died this morning at 7:30. I went to see about the others and found another one sick. I went to the vet and they said that there's nothing they can do because there so young. I even brought the new sick one to them and they were going to watch him for the day and night and see what they could do. But they said 20 minutes after I left they puppy died. The vet said all I can do is keep them warm and try feeding them. I feel like no matter what I do I'm going to lose all nine. I have 6 left and I'm taking care of one of them, because he seems really weak.

Ohh, I'm so sorry! One thing that may help is, putting them on a heating pad, with low temp. I can't say that will cure them, but just help them keep warm. Are you feeding them with baby milk you bought? I'm sorry I can't help! I hope they turn out ok.

*you have my sympathy*

Yes, I've been putting them on a heating pad on low with a towel between them. I have also been giving them puppy milk with a bottle. I guess really all it comes down to is making what's left of there little lives a little bit easier. I don't know how long this one will last. He's very winney and moves around a lot. So that leaves 5 left with their mom.

You need to get a neo cropsy done on the dead puppy to find out what killed it. If it is herpes where will be spots on the liver....herpes cannot be treated, you might get them over it for now, but they will most likely die later on....however if it is something that can be treated...then treat it.
I can't believe a vet told you there is nothing that can be done..especially when they don't even know what the problem is.

P.s.

Its not that I don't beleive you that a vet did not say that...i just can't believe one WOULD say that....I think I would be looking for a new vet.

Just thought I would give an up date on the pups. The last pup I was telling about is doing really good. He isn't having any seizures like the other two. I've been taking care of him for two days now and he's doing great! He has a good temp. and his belly is actually filling up with milk. I looked in on the other pups with their mom and they seem to be fine. I see them feeding off her daily.
