We adopted a "Vizsla / Pointer Mix" from the Humane Society about a week ago. Everyone who looks at him says he looks more like a Chesapeake Bay Retriever or a chocolate Lab. He is currently hospitalized at the vet's with Parvo but it is looking like he will recover, thank goodness. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this mix. Before he got sick (we only had him three days before he got sick) he was doing great: doing well with housetraining, very eager to please, very affectionate and playful, followed me everywhere. He is a neutered male between two and three months old. He has also been good throughout this terrible illness (exerted great effort to lick my daughter's nose as he was lying exhausted and dehydrated in the isolation area of the vet's). He also seems to "talk" - today he was a little better and as we held him he went on and on and it did not sound like whimpering, it sounded like he was telling us about his ordeal. Really. The vet says he is a fighter, meaning he is not giving up. He is all chocolate with olive eyes and a bit of white on his chest. His ears are curly, his coat is kind of "fuzzy" (not sleek), and his nose is brown. We had taken him to another vet who said his illness was just a reaction to shots - three more days and we took him to another vet and he was nearly dead. If your puppy vomits and has diarrhea, even if he has had two sets of shots, get him to the vet for a Parvo test. It is a very specific test. If it is positive your dog needs to get rehydrated or it will die. Our puppy has been on an IV for three days now (the IV includes saline, dextrose, antibiotics and an anti-nausea drug). I have also ordered Parvaid for when he comes home (mentioned elsewhere on this board).

Bless You for sticking by this rescue!!!
If we had more people like you , then we wouldn't have so many dogs in the Humane Society.People like you are angels. You could have taken the easy way out, and have put this beautiful baby down,, but you didn't!!!!
you will have a best friend in that pup for the rest of his life.

Hi there!

Cheers to you for saving this lil baby!

When I brought home my baby he caught parvo. We saved him. Now he's the sweetest, most loyal loving companion any dog lover could have asked for. The more you go to see him the more he'll have the desire to live.

Cheers
