Aloha, My family is looking into getting a puppy but we do not know where to get one at a reasonable price. Can you help me find a good store that will help me get our Peek-A-Poo. Aloha [This message has been edited by Hiiaka (edited 03-17-2003).] IP: Logged |

Please don't buy from a pet store, and be very wary of websites and newspaper ads. Above all, don't ever buy a dog if you can't physically visit every area of the home or breeding facility where the dogs are kept. Puppy mills will continue to operate until people stop buying their dogs. I urge you to visit your local shelter, where you are likely to find dozens of healthy, well-socialized puppies and adult dogs—including purebreds—just waiting for that special home—yours. Thank you for your help. I just need to find a breeder that I can trust and that has reasonable prices. Oh yeah a peek-a-poo is a poodle mix. They are also called teddy bears. Aloha! IP: Logged |

Actually, I answered a newspaper ad and that is how I got my Peek-a-poo, but I did talk to the lady quite awhile, she answered all of my questions, she asked me many, many questions herself too. Plus, she lived about 60 miles away, so we had to drive there to see the puppy also. When we arrived we sat and talked first and were there at least an hour, before we definitely said yes to purchase the pup. We saw the parents, on site, checked their sleeping quarters and feeding place out, where they played, ran, etc... just everything. Both parents were pure bred and papered, which I saw as well, including Vet records. But, the prices they are asking for a mixed breed today, like the Peek-a-poo, is ridiculous and way, way to much. I realize that I got my Peek-a-poo in 1980, which is a long, long time ago, but we only paid $50.00, for him them. It is still a mixed breed dog, even though both parents were pure bred and papered. The puppy isn't a pure bred dog and doesn't have papers. I can't believe the prices I have seen on here that some have paid. I think if anyone pays over $100, maybe $125, in todays markets, they are crazy. Even that much really seems too expensive, especially for a Peek-a-poo. At least it does to me anyway. I only paid $175, for my pure bred Sheltie, from a personal breeder here in Georgia. That was a great deal, but we were friends and also worked together. So, I just can't see paying that much, and more, for a mixed breed animal. IP: Logged |
