Did you know that often those cute little runts of the litter are actually "sickly" most of their lives? Trust me here. I have had two friends who picked out the super tinies, paid a fortune for the tininess too!!! One's pup died for NO apparent reason at 3 months old. One lived almost a year and then gave up the ghost with no warning. It is NOT worth it really because by that time you are utterly attached to the tiny thing!! If you do have an extra tiny puppy in a litter be sure to give it extra care! Often they may "go down" and become very weak with a rapid heartbeat...YES they can die BUT give them a little honey on a tea spoon and see if that revives them. Often they are actually prone to low blood sugar. Open spots on the head are very common, so check to make sure that their skulls are fully closed. If not be very careful with them and probably in time they will close on their own. Michael in Texas IP: Logged |
