I HAVE A ROTTWEILER MALE AT THE AGE OF 14 MONTHS. HE HAS STARTED LOOSING WEIGHT, 3 VETS ARE STUMPED. I AM NOT GETTING ANYWHERE WITH ANTIBOTICS, SEEMS TO HAVE AN APPETITE AND EATS REGULAR DRY AND WET DOG FOOD. BUT WILL NOT GAIN WEIGHT IN FACT STILL LOOSING WEIGHT AT A RAPID RATE. THIS HAS BEEN OVER A 4 MONTH PERIOD. HAVE BEEN TOLD TO GIVE HIM METRONIDAZOLE BUT THIS HAS MADE HIM LOOSE HIS APPETITE. SO I HAVE STOPPED GIVING HIM THE PILLS. ANYONE WITH ANY HELP OR ADVICE PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT ALLASIANMAN@AOL.COM IP: Logged |

Is he getting "leggy"? Is he a big-boned dog, of good breeding? Why I ask, is because if you are feeding TOO HIGH A PROTEIN it is not good in a large breed as a puppy. You can initially, but must stop after a few months because the protein can cause bone and development problems. Perhaps he is growing, getting a bit taller/leggy, then will compact and stocky looking once again when his growth balances out..... If not, that he is definitely losing, eating, not hyperactive, has no worms or major disease entity, then I question if perhaps he is not a purebred, is mixed with another type of dog beside Rott? Just a few thoughts. I hope you find out soon, so it can ease your wondering, as well as for his health.....God bless. IP: Logged |
