We have a blue healer border collie mix. She had two puppies on the first and then had five more that were still born the fifth one barley made it she was born five days later then the other two. Well we took the three of the pups to the vet to get their shots and get dewormed when they were 6-7 weeks old. Well then the last one became sick. We took her to the vet to get her checked out and he ran a parvo test on her. He came back and said that the test was negative. So the only other thing he could think of was that when we wormed her the worms created a toxin in her body and that was what was making her so sick. So he gave us Reglan which was supposed to be an anti vomiting medicine and told us to give it to her when we got home and wait one half hour to see if she would hold it down if she vomited again we were supposed to give it to her in another half an hour but if she kept it down for that half hour we were supposed to give her clavmaz which is an anti biodic. Well we got her home and gave her the reglan and she kept it down. So then we gave her the clavomax. It wasn't anymore than ten minutes and she made an awful noise and took two last breaths and then was gone. We called the vet right after she made the noise and he said well you can bring her in but I don't know what I am going to be able to do for her. By the time we got her there like I said she was gone. Well then the second born became ill so we took him to the same vet to have him see what was wrong. He didn't even check his temp or anything just said he needed to be wormed so they wormed him and the first born and sent us home with some more worm medicine. Well two days later he died. Well then the first born became ill and we said we would not take her to this vet again because he did not seem to want to figure out what the problem was so we decided to treat her at home for parvo because we had called another vet and they said that would be the best thing to do is treat her for parvo. Well because none of the vets wanted to work with our finaces we treated her ourselves. She did really good four two days. We were putting 110-150 cc of fluids under her skin giveing her 1/2 cc of Pennicillian and keeping her and her cage sterilized. Well then yesterday she became really dehydrated and went down really fast so we put a lot of fliuds in her. We wound up loosing her yesterday. I am just wondering if anyone knows what the real problem might be. I am also wondering why it seems that animals are nothing to vets that take their oaths to take care of these innocent lives. We believe that we were put here to take care of these animals and to love and provide for them. Why does anything have to go without medical help because of inability to pay? Thank you all for taking the time to read this. We just wish we could get something done about the way animals are treated. If anyone has any suggestion please let us know. Thank you again.

I really feel for what has happened to you. I have no real advise for you other than you need to change vets. When your female is with pups make sure she is seen regularly. My two are from the shelter so they have been fixed. It would really worth your time to find a really dependable vet. A week and a half ago my terrier mix was attacked by a alaskan malamute at our cities dog park. Well I thought for suree we would be paying more than $450.00 but they deducted the $120.00 exrays and the animal care which was $60.00. I think that after all was said and done they saw we were willing so they cut us some slack. Their was a couple in their that had a cat that needed $120.00 worth of care. My god they said they had no money. The cat was put down. That was such a small amount. Try to find a better vet.

In regards to your post, alot of time with larger dogs..and the amount of pups. The pups are further located towards the ribcage and after a few are born the mother quits pushing, when this happens your dog needs to go to vet for a exray to determine how many are still there and at that point the vet should of done 1 of 2 things a shot to bring on the rest of little or number 2 a cesearin to get the rest..another problem one sees happen is when doing a proper breeding it should be monitored and not let dogs run freely to breed...there should be 2 good breeding around 2 days apart if you go past those days..then you run into pups that are not ready to be born, but yet others are ready to come on out.
DOC~ 2003 I would check into other vet
Ps..sorry about your losses

If you didn't intend to breed, why isn't your dog spayed? And if you eventualy intended to breed without having money for it,, this is wrong.
Did your dog have ALL health test if it was to be breed???
There are too many dogs without homes to be breeding like this.Breeding is to better a breed, NOT to make money.
I sorry you lost all the pups,, but there is only one persom to blame YOURSELF.

Is your dog a CH?? are you going to better a breed?all health test done?IF not then DON"T BREED

I too am sorry for your losses, but I have to say this...education education education!
Your dog should be spayed, there are many low cost spay programs available. Second, I actually interviewed vets, I saw about 7 or 8 and that was years and years ago. It is like choosing your own doctor, it is to be done with care and thought. I made a list of questions and found someone who had the qualities and offered the services I wanted and needed in a vet. I have used the same vet for many years and he knows my animals and their medical histories. Because I have been with him for so long he has been willing to make payment arrangements when needed. Find a vet you can communicate with, it's vital in an emergency, and be a responsible pet owner.... spay and neuter.

The dog was not supposed to breedable according to a vet. Also this dog also had one litter of puppies before she was diagnosed not to be able to breed and they were perfectly healthy. It is not that we never have money. It is just at that time the money was tight. You can not ridicule someone because of this. I am sure you have had times when you had a problem making ends meet. I just didn't think that the post from dane lover was fair. I have bred dogs in the past and in fact was friends with a mojor dog breeder. I have kept alot of pups alive by alot of time and alot of patience and love. My question was why is everything have to be about money. It's life more important then money?? Thank you for your replies.

I dont think any of them meant to make it seem that it is about money at all. They just dont understand if you had a dog that was bred why you didnt have money set aside. Please dont think I am trying to be mean because I am not. Its just that there are too many animals out there that dont have homes because of overbreeding or ooopsies. Please get your dog spayed. As far as your vet you definitely need to find another one. Write down a list of things you need in a vet because it is a little different for everyone. Once you establish a vet that you love and have been to it often. They usually will cut you a break financially if you are strapped. I have had a couple times when my vet has given me a little discount for vet visits. Another idea that I did due to the fact that my senior dog cut her leg open and I had to go running to relatives to get some cash was start up a fund just for your animals. It has come in handy many times for me. Hopefully, you wont have another emergency but if it does happen its nice when money isnt one thing you dont have to worry about. I am not saying that money should be anything but both doctors and vets have to make money I guess. I rescued a rottie and having that money set aside made my decision alot easier. I was able to take her to the vet as soon as I got her without being strapped for cash. Just something to ponder. I have also been in the situation where an animal was in trouble and I didnt have the cash. But I ended up finding a solution so it shouldnt happen again and one way or another you will to. Good luck and dont take anything anybody says to be bashing you. Everyone on here really cares and loves animals. They just want what is best for them no matter what and to spread awareness and education.
