Last week (01/21/02) I got 7 week old chihuahua puppy, and the day before he had just gotten his first parvo vaccine. Throughout the the rest of last week he was playful and acting normal, but it wasn't until about 2 days ago that he started acting strange...On monday morning my dad gave him a little bit too much to eat of his chicken and rice formula and he pooped a lot after that. He was normal when i got home from school, but i think he ate some of the newspaper i put in his box because it had a little bit of a vomit stain, but after that he was ok. So i figured nothing was wrong until that night he would not want to eat or even get up, he would just sleep or lay in my arms, I even called the emergency vet's office and they told me not to worry that if he doesn't poop in 23 hours to DO worry and take him to the vet. He would not poop until later that night he pooped a lot and it was greenish and watery... after that he started jumping so i didnt worry THAT much, until a little later he would just lay on his cover. I watched him as i fell asleep, and in the morning (yesterday) he started choking and then i really got freaked out! He started vomiting some dark liquid (first i thougt it was his food which is brown) but it was liquid so i started thinking it might be blood! (he vomited twice) So i took him to the vet right away and he vomitted again on the way there and a little at the vet. The vet told me those are symptoms of parvo or if not it could be sugar loss. The vet was gonna charge me 539$ to treat him! I am only 18 and a college student with a part time job, and my parents were not available, so I took him back to the pet store and the owner sent it to a vet he knows. The saddest part was when i left him there the shop owner left him in a little room and when the puppy tried to walk it would fall or walk to the side...and he was so skinny and tiny compared to his sister! I started crying! I keep calling him to see how my puppy's doing, but he just told me he was dehydrated, and his stomach wasnt good...i am supposed to call him at 7 to see what happend...I am really worried, and i am just hoping for the best, but i am pretty much expecting the worst. I am really worried and very sad even though i only had him for a week...I guess i am just writing to see if maybe there is any hope that these symptoms may not necessarily be from parvo???? I would appreciate any suggestions or opinions! Or at least some consolation. Thank You for taking your time to read my long, endless essay... Thank you.
Love, Barbie
