hi,

i just lost a puppy to parvo that he got from the doctor's
office. I was wondering how to completly sanatize my home so it doesn't
happen again. I bleached all the concrete and grass in the back yard, i
cleaned the inside of my home up and down and even sprayed bleach water on
the carpets and we all take our shoes off when we come in and always spray
the bottoms of them. I also rented a carpet cleaner with sanatizer. am i miss
anything? please write me back. Thanks.

Heather

Heather, I am so very sorry for your loss. You are doing the correct thing by cleaning everything, but with parvo if it was me I would wait if you are thinking about bringing a new pup in. That is just my opinion, if the urge overwhelmes your missing your pup you loss you first need to get through the grief, and also the worst time to purchase to get a new pup is in the bad weather due to so many diseases can be tracked in and out on shoes..I can see you are trying your best to do all this. Only thing I could even suggest is if a new pup came in, the new pup still would have to be put in a quarantined type place and I dont think that would be much fair to him or her. Sometimes we just can't clean nor see what we have missed no matter how hard we try. I have heard so many stories about pups catching at the vets office. Many yrs ago I used to make the Vet come to my car for the shots.. ) I had many vets say no but I kept looking till I found one that would..
Good Luck
Doc~

Hi Heather,

I strongly agree with Doc. You need to wait a while before getting in a new puppy.
Although disinfecting everything there is still a chance that some areas are still infected.
Parvo can live up to 6 months or so in your home or yard.

Also, someone has made an earlier post regrading Pravo. Check it out here: http://www.auspet.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000082.html

I am SORRY to hear this. I had lost one rottweiler mix puppy and one survived parvo last august I'm in the boat again though I DID wait it will be almost 6 months that I got my new rotteiler and YES I do KNOW that rottweilers are HIGHLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO PARVO but I love rottweilers. I am very cautious this time on current vaccines and good food and hasnt been let outside until 12 weeks of age its going ok so far hope it stays this way.
