Most dogs seem to be really attracted to cat poop. I had that problem with my dog also but she is a larger dog so all I did was buy covered litter boxes and put a chair in front of them so she couldnt get in there but the cats still could. Can you place the litterboxes up on something so the dog cant reach them? Covered boxes may help too.

THE REASON DOGS EAT CAT POO OR ANY KIND OF POO IS THEY ARE LACKING IN A VITAMIN..I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY DOG...YOU CAN ORDER THIS VITAMIN FOR MOST PET STORE OR PET SUPPLIES MAGAZINES.

I have to disagree with the vitamin deficiency theory in regards to eating poop.

"Contrary to popular beleif, dogs and cats are unable to self-regulate their intake of essential nutrients. Companion animals that are deficient in a particular vitamin, mineral, or essential amino acid will not seek foods that contain the nutrient or preferably select a diet that is abundant in the deficient nutrient."

I agree with Nern, glad to see you disagreed with Princess of Pits..Ive seen dogs for many years do this..even going to the point of finding it on the lawnmower tires when I'm done mowing. Its more like a obsession of theirs..

Well, I guess even vets have varied opinions on issues like these. Incidently, the book I quoted from was written by a vet.

I beg to differ with you Pit Princess, excuse me but I have raised and showed dogs for over 25 years. So be very careful when you say: Doc "you dont know much about dogs"!
Its just a matter of time before the breeding of pits becomes restricted by Legislative Law and impose fines on those that are breeding them! Sounds to me like you are very unexperienced and maybe young and furthermore I don't care. Just because your pit doesn't attack it sure doesn't mean its offspring won't. I bet you can't put that in your doggy guarantee when you sell them! Back to vitamins maybe you should try some yourself, maybe vitamins will help you see the Light of the Problem.
The light refers to "breeding of pitbulls"

DOC,
I AM YOUNG AND I HAVE BEEN BREEDING PITBULS FOR 10 YEARS.I KNOW MORE ABOUT PITBULLS AND THEIR HABITS MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE DO.AS FOR LAWS,IT IS VERY STUPID TO PUT RESTRICTIONS ON BREEDING THESE DOGS.THATS JUST LIKE PUTTING RESTRICTIONS ON BREEDING POODLES..YOU KNOW THE STANDARD POODLE WAS BRED FOR HUNTING POLAR BEARS...SO THEY HAVE TO BE AGRESSIVE AND TOUGH...I DON'T SEE YOU SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT THEM..BOXERS WERE BRED TO HUNT AND KILL WILD BULL AND PIGS.
SO AS FOR KNOWING A GOOD BIT ABOUT DIFFERENT BREEDS..YES I DO KNOW..
BACK TO VITAMINS...MY DOGS GO TO THE BEST VET IN MY AREA..HE COMES HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT...AND SEVERAL OF HIGH RANKING PEOPLE IN MY AREA..
I DID NOT SAY THAT IT WAS THE LACK OF VITAMINS,I SAID IT COULD BE...SO BEFORE YOU ATTACK MY OPINION..READ WHAT I WRITE CORRECTLY.

good breeding, or the lack of, is apparent not only in dogs but in humans as well. (see some of the responses that have been posted in the last few days on a number of subjects) when an "adult" that claims to be an expert has to be reminded to clean up her language on her posts its disgraceful. Knowledge can be shared and opinions can differ, even greatly, without being personally abusive to someone else.

everyone loves to say that each person is entitled to their own opinion but when that opinion differs from their own they feel they have the right to blast the person that does not agree ith them. I've found Doc's posts to be informative, interesting and enjoyable over the few months time i've been a member of this board and i hope she doesn't get run off by the new bully on the block.

Princess--its clear that you care a great deal about your pits & while i respect your passion and love for your favorite breed, just as i've respected others for their's even if it's differed from mine, the fact remains that many people are going to have a difference of opinion on the subject of pits, why dogs eat poo, whether big is better than small, mutt vs. purebred, whatever....that doesn't give you the right to belittle someone else because they don't agree with you. There are a number of "experts" that haunt this board that aren't happy making a statement and leaving it alone. they feel they have to come back again and again and beat you over the head with it. that of course prompts the other person to respond in a like manner and so on.

My particular cause has been defending my favorite kind (i won't say breed because i certainly don't want to start up with all of that again) which are the smaller dogs, poo crosses in general, malti-poos specifically. Theres one person on this board that clearly dislikes small dogs & puts them down every chance she gets & we've had some heated back & forths. but she has never been verbally abusive to me nor i to her. i don't know a thing about pit-bulls other than they have a bad reputation. I do agree with you to an extent that some mannerisms in pits or any animal are a result of bad owners. i do believe as well though that there are tendencies for aggressiveness that just come with the breed. You cannot deny that there have been many instances where they have attacked people, often times children, unprovoked. theres a reason why they have such a bad reputation. that is my opinion and i'm not afraid to voice it. i already know yours so please don't feel you have to repeat it or start attacking me because then i'd have to start picking on you for your spelling (i.e. bread = food)

remember--being young does not excuse bad manners.

YOU KNOW I AM NOT AFRAID TO VOICE MY OPINIONS EITHER...THIS IS ABOUT PEOPLE PUTING DOWN A BREED THAT THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT...AND IF YOU HAD LOOKED AT SOME OF MY OTHER POSTS ..I TOLD DOC THAT I WAS SORRY FOR THE THINGS THAT I SAID...SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO HER OPINIONS JUST AS I DO...AND IF YOU DO NOT LIKE MY OPINION THEN DON'T READ IT..I WILL REPLY TO WHAT EVER POST I WANT TO..
MY PROBLEM IS THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD ARE SO QUICK TO SAY KILL THESE DOGS..THEY ARE ALL BAD...THEIR MONSTERS...ALL OF THAT IS A LOAD OF CRAP..
I AM SORRY FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD BAD INCOUNTERS WITH PITBULLS.
I DO HAVE A QUESTION.YOU SAY ALOT OF THESE ATTACKS ARE UNPROVOKED RIGHT?WITH SOME THAT MAYBE TRUE,BUT "MOST PITBULLS" ATTACK ONLY WHEN THEY ARE SCARED AND UNSURE OF THE PERSON THEY HAVE CONTACT WITH.PITBULLS ARE VERY DOMANIT DOGS,SO WHEN ANOTHER ANIMAL COMES INTO THEIR SPACE,THEN THERE WILL BE A PROBLEM.
I AM NOT OUT TO BASH OR BURN SOMEONE ELSE FOR THEIR POINT OF VIEWS...BUT I WILL STAND UP TO PEOPLE THAT WANT TO SAY NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT PITBULLS..EXSPECIALY THE PEOPLE THAT THINK THEY KNOW THE FACTS LIKE...PITBULLS "LOCK" THIER JAWS WHEN THEY BITE...FALSE...OR PITBULLS BITE HARDER THAT ANY OTHER DOG....FALSE AGAIN...OR PITBULLS ARE THE LEADING DOGS THAT BITE....FALSE AGAIN..PEOPLE NEED TO GET THEIR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE THEY TALK TRASH..

and clearly my post wasn't about your spelling. you once told someone to read what you wrote correctly. do the same for me please. My post was about your lack of manners and your nasty attitude & holier than thou opinion about pit bulls. and while you concede that other people are entitled to their opinions you continue to beat a dead horse on your own opinion over and over again.

as far as i'm concerned saying they are "very dominate" is just a nicer way of saying very aggressive or very dangerous. my small dog can feel dominate of his territory or scared and unsure of another person or animal but chances are you're going to survive an altercation with him should he chose to attack. Who can ever anticipate what a pitbull might construe as threatening or scary?? might they see a person with a large hat on for instance and consider that scary? or a person walking down "their" sidewalk? or a person thats a first time visitor in the home? the thing is, you don't know! Being humans, no one knows!! and while i feel that your slightly more in tune with the way they think than most, not even YOU know. So don't come off saying these dogs are only misunderstood and not dangerous at all. anyone with an ounce of sense knows different. you've even admitted that some of the attacks were unprovoked and because of the size and the power these dogs have, the attack can and often is fatal.

and yes, you did apologize to doc. lets see, that was at 9:30 am this morning. then at 10:31 you were right back to being nasty again. were you feeling threatened & unsure? if so then i guess that makes it ok.

IT IS HOW IT IS.IF I HAVE TO GET UP IN SOME BODY'S FACE...I WILL...PEOPLE LIKE YOU CAUSE ME TO HAVE THE KIND OF ATTITUDE I DO..BY ME SAYING THEY ARE DOMINATE I DO NOT MEAN AGRESSIVE OR DANGEROUS...
I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION.IF A PITBULL ATTACKS SOMEONE AND A GERMAN SHEPERD ATTACKS SOMEONE ..YOU THINK THE PERSON THAT IS ATTACKED BY THE GERMAN SHEPERD HAS A BETTER CHANCE..(AND I AM NOT SAYING EITHER ONE WILL ATTACK OR SHOULD ATTACH)?
IN MY OPINION YOU JUST DO NOT LIKE BIG DOGS,WITCH IS FINE...BUT YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING...I WOULD RATHER HAVE A DOG(AS YOU WOULD SAY ,CAN DO MORE DAMAGE)PROTECTING MY FAMILY,THAN SOME ANKLE BITER.(NO OFFENCE TO SMALL DOGS).IF YOU DO NOT LIKE WHAT I HAVE TO SAY DON'T KEEP REPLYING TO WHAT I WRITE.AS FOR ME BEING AGRESSIVE....YOU ANIT SEEN NOTHING YET!!!

AS FOR YOUR DOG BEING ABOUT TO FEEL "DAMINATE"AND NOT HURTING OTHER ANIMALS OR PEOPLE THAT COME IN YOU YARD...WELL GOOD FOR YOU...IF A DOG ARE PERSON DOES COME INTO MY YARD IT IS MY DOGS JOB TO PROTECT MY HOUSE AND FAMILY AND IF THE DOG DOESN'T HE IS NOT ANY GOOD..I EXPECT AND DEMAND THAT MY DOGS KEEP UNWANTED ANIMALS AND PEOPLE OUT OF MY YARD.THAT IS WHAT HE IS HE IS SUPPOST TO DO.THAT IS WHAT HE IS TAUGHT TO DO.MY DOG HAS NEVER BIT OR EVEN TRIED TO BITE ANOTHER ANIMAL OR PERSON,BUT HE LETS THEM KNOW THEY ARE NOT WELCOME.

well god forbid a small child get away from their parent and wander into your yard, or any other creature for that matter. and you've just shown to me that your one of the ones thats raising them to be mean and attack. for some reason i'm not surprised.

Regarding Pitbulls
I just wanted to say that there are several pits in my area and I have never encountered a nasty one yet. Matter of fact my vet owns a pitbull that goes to work with her everyday. It is the one of the nicest dogs I have ever met. She loves children and other animals. Poorly bred and/or abused pits are the ones that you have to worry about. Well bred pits are not human aggresive. They are people dogs and are rated as one breed that is supposed to be good with children. Pits were used to fight dogs and often are dog to dog aggressive. There is a huge difference in dog to dog aggression vs. dog to human aggression. Just wanted share my 2cents on the suject.
Pitbull Princess: I am suprised to hear that your dogs are "guard" dogs because I've read that they are so people freindly that they make terrible guard dogs.

My parents have a dog that also eats it poop, and i found some stuff at Petsmart that is supposed to make the poop taste terrible. It is a small pill that you crush up and put in their food it worked for my parents dog so give it a shot maybe it will help.

NERN,
I HAVE ONE PITBULL THAT I HAVE TRAINED TO BE A GUARD DOG,BUT JUST BECAUSE HE IS A GUARD DOG DOES NOT MAKE HIM UNKIND.HE LOVES CHILDREN..I HAVE HIM TO PROTECT MY KIDS WHEN THEY ARE OUTSIDE PLAYING...I DO NOT LIVE IN THE BEST PART OF TOWN,SO I WANTED A DOG THAT WOULD HELP MY KIDS IF THEY EVER NEEDED IT.
YOU ARE RIGHT..PITBULLS LOVE PEOPLE AND THEY THRIVE ON PLEASING THEIR OWNERS.ALL OF MY DOGS LOVE PEOPLE AND CHILDREN..HE HAS NEVER ATTACK ANYONE OR ANY OTHER ANIMAL..IF I FELT HE WOULD BITE A CHILD I WOULD NEVER LEAVE MY KIDS BY THEMSELVES WITH HIM.I HAVE COMPLETE TRUST IN ALL OF MY DOGS..THEY ARE VERY WARM AND LOVING ANIMALS...
ITS GOOD TO HEAR SOMEONE HAVE SOMETHING NISE TO SAY ABOUT PITBULL...
