ok I love my girl Starr she's a 5 yr old shepard x chow x sheltie mix that I got myself for christmass 5 yrs ago because someone's landlord didn't allow pets but they got her anyway.now pets are great but remember this is a live animal with emotions and a long life of its own if you get a child a puppy they will have it for 10 to15 yrs god willing. and a kid has no way of supporting a pet on their own. I grew up with dogs but got my first when I was 20 my mother had shepards when I was little then toy poodles later. my first was buddy a shepard X chow he only lived 3 mo. with me I didn't walk him enough and he snuck out on his own day and got into antifreeze...it was a bad match . Starr is wonderful and I love her but feel pets and owners need to choose each other. so give a gift certificate for a pet if you insist or go to the pound after christmass and find someone who loves you. My second dog a golden retriver x shepard is a pound pupy I got her as a 1 yr old and love her even though she's an ox i've had her a yr and she finnally heels properly on lead but still bolts and laughs at me off lead what a clown.
