Hi, We recently got a GSD puppy. He is 8 weeks old. We crate train him and keep the crate in our bedroom. We let him out 6-8 times a day and he urinates/defecates each time. However, at night he howls and whines for hours at a time and urinates in his crate- on his bed, in fact! The crate is a full-sized crate suitable for when he's an adult. Do you think a divider would help to make the crate smaller? Also, why does he whine all day and night? Help! Jill IP: Logged |

Well he's a newbie to being alone and not scampering about with his other siblings, so he wants attention and company! Do not give in, give him a stuffed toy and chew, let him out to piddle and poo right before bedtime, and be firm with him. No more food or water a few hrs before bedtime. He will quiet down. All pups are like this. Heck, my 4 yr old spoiled rotten Dobies still whine when I am in and play time is over, but I give chewies, ignore and it ends shortly. Do not allow his whining to manipulate you into giving in. We tend to want to cuddle, they are so darn cute, but DON'T fall into that trap or this guy will NEVER quit and you will eventually go nuts or sell him, and all you had to do in the beginning was ignore it. Get earplugs or get a headset and happy dreams....this too shall pass.Best wishes. IP: Logged |
